Chapter 6 - The First Change

Then my bones suddenly began to crack. I screamed and dropped to my knees. Fire rushed through my veins, burning every part of me. “Luna!” Damon shouted. My mother rushed toward me, but Damon stopped her. “Don't touch her!” “She needs me!” “No. If you interrupt the transformation, you could kill her.” I looked at Damon through tears. “What… is happening to me?” He didn't answer. My fingers dug into the dirt as another wave of pain tore through my body. My mother knelt beside me. “Luna, listen to my voice.” I could barely breathe. “Mom… I'm scared.” Her eyes filled with tears. “I know.” My vision blurred. Then I heard a whisper. Not from my mother. Not from Damon. From inside me. “Don't be afraid.” I froze. The voice sounded strangely familiar. “Who are you?” I whispered. Damon's face suddenly went pale. “Luna, don't talk to it.” I looked at him. “You can hear it?” “No.” “Then how do you know?” He stared at the mark glowing on my palm. “Because I've heard that voice before.” “When?” Damon looked at my mother. She lowered her eyes. “Eighteen years ago,” he whispered. The forest suddenly went silent. Then my eyes flashed gold. A powerful wave exploded from my body. Damon was thrown backward. “DAMON!” He crashed against a tree. I stared at my hands in horror. “I did that?” My mother stepped backward. “No…” She looked terrified. “What?” She whispered, “Your wolf has awakened.” Damon slowly stood. “That isn't a wolf.” The three strangers began smiling. One of them bowed. “The Blood Moon has awakened.” My mother's face went white. And then something inside me growled. But this time… I wasn't the one who heard it. Everyone heard it.
