Chapter Three

I glanced at the phone one more time to confirm the address Jane sent to me. I fixed my hair and reapplied my lip gloss before heading out. Jane was surprised to see my call earlier this morning, and she agreed to meet at her son's house. I hailed a cab to take me to the address. After twenty minutes, we arrived at the place. I stood there staring at the house mouth wide open. Sorry, did I say house? Staring at the mansion. I glared at the mansion for a few more minutes. Taking in every piece of it. It's definitely huge and beautiful. The lawn was clean, and the flowers were blooming under the sun. I stepped further, ringing the doorbell. Jane appeared immediately smiling widely at me before giving me a quick hug. “Welcome, welcome,” Jane said, beaming with joy. She was definitely different from all the other rich men's wives I have read about. “Sit. I will go get my son”. Jane was a tall slender woman with beautiful features. She had sparkling eyes and a pointed nose. Her face, though, had a few wrinkles, still managed to maintain her face card. Her face and body carried elegance and luxury. She didn't do too much, but her presence still screamed power. I looked around the house. The interior of the house was screaming beauty, luxury, and elegance. Every style and decor were made with intention. It was filled with a soft color of gold and white. I stared at the chandelier dangling above my head. The house was prettyyyyyyyyyyy. I heard footsteps and quickly adjusted my posture. Jane stepped in with a man behind her staring down at his phone. “Son, this is Sophia.” He looked up almost immediately, staring at me. This definitely isn't Liam Blackwood. Let's scrap that. This man is a goddess in human form. He was extremely tall, with long hair carefully combed nearly to the back. He had flawless skin which glowed like it had its own skincare routine. He had a strong, powerful feature giving an air of authority and a quiet command that couldn't be ignored. There was a word for his presence, Aura. Yes, he exuded in hefty, overwhelming doses. He was gorgeous and beautiful. If a man could be considered beautiful, he clearly was. He stared at me and I recognized that look. The same look Jane gave me when she first saw me. Ok, this is weird, and how could they hide such a beautiful son from the world? He gave me a look that pierced through my soul and stormed out. What the hell! “I will go get him,” Jane said, tailing after him. They came back a few minutes later, and the goddess sat on a coach opposite mine, staring deeply at me. I tried as much as I could to keep the staring contest, but I lost. I slowly turned my head to face Jane. “Sophia, this is my son Xavier,” she said, smiling. Xavier, a name just as beautiful as he looks. "You will be working for him." I smiled at him, and he just stared, saying nothing. “You will be living here tho. It will be easier to attend to his needs and whatever he wants”. He said nothing “You can start working from tomorrow to give you time to go home and pack whatever you need." Still nothing. “You will be paid one million dollars at the end of every month,” I looked back and forth at Jane and her son, confirming if I heard right. This is ten million times better than what I expected. But this man doesn't look like he is physically deranged or incapable of attending to himself. He seems perfectly fine to me. Until it suddenly clicked. I slowly looked at Xavier, staring at his mouth that had been clipped short since we met a few minutes ago. He can't speak. No wonder no one knows about him. From what I heard, Ethan Blackwood is very ruthless and doesn't put any stain on his reputation. Xavier, right here, would be a liability to his reputation and businesses, so he decided to hide him from everyone. Oh my, poor man. I looked pitifully at him as I found him still staring at me. “I can drop you off so that you can get ready to resume tomorrow,” Jane said, breaking the gaze, and I nodded slowly. “I'm sorry about my son,” Jane said as we settled in her car. “It's fine. I totally understand.” “Sophia, I would like to give you an extra assignment and I would appreciate it if you could work this out for me." I smiled, nodding at her. “Xavier is very dear to me and I love him so much. I'm also very protective of him. I would like you to let me know of his every move. Xavier works from home and is always at home. In any case, if you see him leave the house, then please let me know,” Jane said, holding my hands gently. “I would do just that ma’am." I stared at my suitcase, wondering what to pack and what not to. I'm surprised how easy it was to convince me to work there. Well, I currently have no job and this pay is ten times better. It would go a long way with my mum's bills and my sister's tuition fees. After my father died, it was hell. My father fell sick, and we used the little we had to take care of his hospital bills, even lending money from his close friends at some point. My mum and I worked day and night relentlessly to make sure my father survived, but God had other plans. He died, leaving us with nothing, and we had to start from scratch. I left California for Times Square for better opportunities. This is the best I have gotten, and I will do anything to keep it. I heard a soft knock on my door. “Adrian,” I muttered, opening the door. I missed him so much. He came in giving me a tight hug. “Sophia” “Adrian, I'm so sorry,” I replied, giving him another hug. “What are you doing?” he said, staring at my suitcase. “Uhmmm… I am starting my work tomorrow.” “And you will be living there?” Adrian said, sounding disappointed. “Yes… I wanted to tell you this, but you kept ignoring my calls.” “I understand, and I am sorry,” Adrian sighed. “So you are working for Liam Blackwood,” Adrian said, trying to hide his smile. Oh, right… No one knows about Xavier. Jane told me not to tell anyone about the existence of Xavier. That was part of my agreement for working there, but Adrian is my boyfriend and I trusted him all my life. “Oh right. They have another son,” I said quickly. “What?” Liam said, munching on an apple he found on the table. “No one knows about him and I didn't know until today.” “Wow…how does he look?” “Fine,” I simply said, making sure I didn't overstep with Adrian here. “But you don't have to worry about him. He is dumb, like literally dumb,” I whispered, as if we were not the only ones in the room. Adrian laughed really hard. “That's really cruel. So he can't speak, and then they decided to hide him,” Adrian said amidst laughter. “Apparently,” I replied, shrugging. “I will miss you, B,” Adrian muttered, giving me a tight hug. “How much is the pay?" Worth it,” he continued, staring at me. “Definitely worth it. It would go a long way for both of us” I smiled sheepishly. “You know you don't have to worry about me, right?” Adrian replied, ruffling my hair. “I'm not worried. I'm just doing my part.” “Thank you, B,” Adrian said, dragging me closer to bed. I gave him a long deep kiss. I am really going to miss him. I'm standing in front of the Mansion again. I can never get enough of the beauty of this house. I held my bag tightly and rang the doorbell. Standing there ringing the doorbell for ten minutes. Is he really going to leave me standing here the whole day? This is already frustrating. I pressed the doorbell once more, making it longer this time, and finally the door snapped open. Here he was, the goddess of the earth. He rubbed his eyes, indicating he had just woken up from sleep. He looked at me, sizing every inch of my body. If looks could kill, I would be ten feet underground. He made way for me as I struggled to get my suitcase in. Oh, right! How am I expected to communicate with him? I quickly opened my bag to bring out a notebook and quickly scribbled on it NICE TO MEET YOU. I turned the paper to him, and he stared at it surprisingly. WHERE IS MY ROOM? I turned the next page to him and he still kept mute. He was looking at me like I was a kind of maniac. WHAT CAN I HELP YOU WITH? Still stood there looking at me amusingly. How can we work together if he has no intent in replying to me? I was about to write another one when the door creaked open and a small head popped from the door. “Dada,” she shouted, hugging Xavier by the leg. Dada… he has a child. “Hey baby,” Xavier said, smiling at the little child standing in front of him. He can talkkkkkkkkkkkkk…. Oh oh.
