She looked through the papers, but there were no other notebooks and, putting them on the desk, she replaced the other papers carefully. She had just lifted the ones marked ‘Holdings’ from the table when the office door opened and someone came in. She turned her head and saw to her astonishment that it was Felix who had entered. “Good morning, Karina!” “Cousin Felix!’” she exclaimed. “What are you doing here?” “I want to see you,” he answered. “And they told me to come straight in.” Summoning all her courage and dignity, Karina said, “Would you mind waiting for me outside?
