Sophia's eyes snapped open as she grabbed the hand at her throat and twisted it forcefully. The sharp c***k of a bone breaking rang out, followed by a bloodcurdling scream.

Her attacker was a man dressed in black. Clearly, he hadn't expected Sophia to fight back. Seizing the moment, she kicked his knee and then flipped his other arm, dislocating it.
The man screamed in agony again, but Sophia acted quickly, striking him on the back of the neck. In the next instant, he collapsed unconscious.
Getting out of bed, Sophia picked up the bottle of incense and tossed it into the trash, making sure to seal the lid tightly to stop the fragrance from spreading.
It was a good thing she had taken an alertness pill earlier. Without it, she would have fallen right into Lillian's trap.
