Chapter 15
Maddock involuntarily reached out a hand to—
Dad!
—the figure standing in the center of the temple. It was, unquestionably, Hunter Maddock.
But Hunter Maddock, Dane Maddock’s father, had died with his wife—Dane’s mother—in a car accident while Maddock and the rest of his SEAL team had been hunting Serbian war criminals overseas. It had been so sudden, so senseless.
I never even got to say good-bye to you.
“Dad,” he said again, wanting to believe. Unable to believe.
This couldn’t be happening. The dead didn’t come back.
As if resonating to the frequency of his thoughts, the figure turned in his direction, but he didn’t seem to be looking at Maddock.
“Dad! Can you hear me?”
