After Phoenix left the room, I hauled myself off the floor and slowly started working my way to my room. It took me a long time to get there because of my broken ribs, but I got there.
Being a werewolf, I can heal at a faster rate than a human, even with me having not gotten my wolf yet. I wont get her for a couple more days. I cant wait! Once I get her, I will finally have a friend to talk to.
I have to set my own nose though so it doesn't heal crooked. With a sickening pop, I snapped my nose back in place. I have blood all over me, but I will have to wait until later to clean up.
Tonight. Tonight will be the night I finally run. I'm going to renounce the pack, go rogue and run.
I'm going to have to wait until everyone is asleep to run. Then wait until I am off pack territory before I renounce the pack. If I get off pack territory before renouncing the pack, hopefully they will have a harder time finding me if they come looking for me.
That sounds like the safest way to do it. Wait until they are sleeping, sneak out, and wait until I'm a couple miles off of the territory before renouncing. I know that when I do, Phoenix will feel it and wake up. He is going to be so pissed.
I need to rest for a little while to heal then pack a small amount of things to take with me. I think I'm going to take a nap to pass time quicker.
***********
When I wake up, I can see through the small window that its already dark outside. I crack my door and look at the clock on the wall by the cells. It's already 10pm. I overslept. Time to start getting ready.
I have a small bag that a change of clothes, my bar of soap and my picture of my parents can go in. I throw my clothes and soap in the bag and look at the picture of Mom and Dad.
I miss them so much....
"I love you guys. I'm going to get out of here and when I do, I'm going to figure out what happened to y'all. I promise."
With that, I carefully put the picture in my bag and set the bag under my bed just in case someone comes in here.
Down here in the basement is a security room with video surveillance of the pack house and the territory lines. If I'm careful I can go check the cameras and see if its safe to leave the house and which way would be safe to go. I have to catch a spot that isn't being patrolled at the time.
Carefully opening the door to my room, I can see that nobody else is down here. They must not have caught anyone today. That makes things a bit easier for me. When I get to the security room its empty.
Sighing a breath of relief, I check the cameras. Shockingly the house was dark and quiet. It's only 10:30. Usually people are still up. I wonder what happened today to cause everyone to go to bed so early?
Oh well. Makes my escape easier. I scan the video footage to find my escape route.
Then I see it. The perfect spot. It's off to the right side of the territory. If I hurry, I can get out there and over the border line quietly and be able to escape.
I grab my bag, take a deep breath and start sneaking up the stairs.
Slow and steady. That's the way to do this. If I go to quick I can accidently be to loud and wake someone up. I tiptoe to the top of the stairs and ease the door open. The other side is still quiet and dark.. Perfect!
I quietly slip through the house and open the back door, luckily for me it is a silent gliding glass door. I walk out the door, slide it closed and take off running.
I'm almost there, I can see the border, but I hear my name.
"Anastasia!" I hear someone whisper yell.
That's odd, I thought if I was caught, they would scream at me and make it known I was outside after dark. That was forbidden for me.
I look to see who called me. That's when I see someone I haven't been able to talk to in years. My dads best friend.
"Davis" I broke down when I saw him and ran to him wrapping my arms around him. He hugs me back tightly and kisses my forehead.
"What are you doing out here kiddo? It's dark and dangerous out here."
"I know Uncle Davis. I just cant do it here anymore. They treat me like a slave and beat me. I'm running away. When I get somewhere safe, I'm going to find out what happened to Mom and Dad. Dominic would never tell me. I need to know."
"I'm happy it was me that saw you running from the pack house and followed you then. I understand why you are going, just don't forget about m, okay? I'll miss you." he says to me tearing up.
"I'll miss you too Uncle Davis." I sob back to the only person who has cared about me since my parents died.
"Here, take this" he says writing his number on is notepad he carries with him. Then reaching around and grabbing his wallet and handing me all of the cash he has. He handed me 1200 dollars. "Call me when you get somewhere safe. Maybe I can still see you someday. I love you kiddo. Take care of yourself, don't forget about me and find out what happened to them."
"Thank you Uncle Davis. I will call you as soon as I can. I love you too." I cried, hugging him for what may be the last time.
I put everything in my bag, kiss him on the cheek and take off running again to the order. I keep running after crossing the border. I run for what feels like forever. I should have brought some water with me.
I've been running through dense woods. I have cuts all over me from low hanging branches and bushes. I've finally found a clearing and I'm taking a small break to catch my breath. I need to see if I'm far enough away to renounce the pack. There is only one way to know.
If I am close enough to mindlink I need to get farther first. There is only one person safe enough to mindlink right now. Uncle Davis. I open the link and reach for him. After a while of him not responding I know I am far enough away.
"I Anastasia Elaine Mathis, hereby renounce my loyalty to Alpha Phoenix Pierce of the Crimson Claw pack and declare myself rogue."
As the pack bond breaks I drop to my knees for a second. I didn't expect it to hurt like that. But that soon passes. I did it. I'm free!!!
Now I need to keep running and get somewhere safe.
I take off running again. I'm running for another few hours. The sun is coming up, I'm tired and really need some water. Off in the distance I can see a city.
As I'm getting to the edge of the city I see a sign for a hotel. Perfect! That's just what I need!
Running up to the hotel I feel a sense of relief. I can finally rest and I can call Uncle Davis and let him know I'm okay for the day. Time to get some rest.
