There was another noise, but this one was in my head. Something trying to be heard over the alarms. It was an annoying kind of sound. I tried to block it out, with no success. Then I realised it was a voice. Someone was calling me.
I looked around, but there was no one in the room but me and the lunatic at the controls. He was grinning broadly at the screens with their warnings of impending doom.
The voice kept calling me. It was definitely in my head.
How can I think with all this noise? I thought, There’s too much noise. Need to block out all the noise. I need to be able to think. How can I stop him? What can I do?
It was Darion. I’d forgotten him in my anger and my state of mind. But I didn’t need him. I needed to think.
