Chapter 6: Shattered Horizons

249 Words
Lucien awoke on unfamiliar shores. The sky shimmered with colors he had never seen — teal waves reflecting a silver sun, and islands floating like driftwood in the sky. He staggered to his feet, blood still trickling from his palm, and called out. “Seraphina! Where are you?” His voice cracked, carried by the strange winds. From the horizon, a figure emerged. Not the bright, soft Seraphina he knew, but the older, black-eyed reflection. Her gaze was cold. > “Welcome to the other world, vampire,” she said, voice echoing like the deep sea. “You’ve crossed to awaken me.” Lucien’s heart thumped, desperation and disbelief warring inside him. “No! You’re not her. She… she wouldn’t—” > “I am what she becomes,” the reflection interrupted, stepping closer. “And now, you will see what it means to love a sea’s wrath.” He gritted his teeth, summoning his courage. “Then I will fight, no matter what. Even if you are the storm itself.” The water beside her shivered as though alive. A massive creature, unlike any he had seen, rose from the floating tides. Lucien’s fangs bared. “I thought this was the world where we could be free…” > “Freedom? Foolish vampire. Freedom is for the naive.” Lucien knew the battle was inevitable—but somewhere, deep beneath the fear, a spark of hope told him Seraphina’s heart still existed somewhere in this strange world.
