Chapter 2: Blood Meets Salt

201 Words
Lucien visited again the next night — and the next. Seraphina pretended not to notice, gliding beneath the surface, pretending the vampire’s gaze didn’t follow her. But when he spoke, his words were impossible to ignore. “Tell me, Sea Princess,” Lucien teased one night, “does your heart beat as wild as the waves when you see me?” Her tail flicked, splashing him with cold water. “Does your undead heart even know how to beat?” He laughed, a deep, rich sound that echoed into her veins. “Touché.” Still, when she left, her heart did pound — confusing, forbidden, alive. But their meetings did not go unnoticed. From the shadows of the reefs, dark creatures watched. The sea and the night had been enemies for centuries — and their heirs’ meetings could mean war. That night, as Seraphina returned home, her mother’s voice thundered through the palace halls: > “You meddle with death, my daughter. The vampires are cursed by the blood of fallen gods. Touch him again, and you bring ruin to the sea.” Seraphina’s chest ached. She knew it was a warning — but part of her wanted to defy it.
