CHAPTER TWO

"I LOVE YOU TOO. BYE." I smiled when Billie told her fiance Keith over the phone. I was happy for how far my best friend and Keith had taken their relationship. It was inspiring, really. Well, then when Billie would come home in tears because of Keith, I did not find it funny but now it was inspiring that they'd conquered all of these and stuck with each other. Billie hung up and looked over at me with a grin I returned. We were in the kitchen and I was sat on one of the kitchen chairs, watching Billie make some sandwiches. "I swear he calls every day to ask how I'm doing." She told me the obvious. "I know. I was sat here listening to you guys, remember?" She laughed. "Where is he anyways? I haven't seen him in days." "Yeah. He and Christian went for some business in Bronx. I miss him already." Christian. That name made me blush. It was six days already but I still had the memory of that night vividly. I know I said I didn't want to see him again, but I always hoped I'll bump into him whenever I came to visit Billie. That hasn't happened. Yet. "Oh. So..." I swallowed. "Are Christian and Keith close?" "Yeah.Keith says Christian was the best and most loving cousin he had. They were closer but then Christian suddenly went MIA on everyone and they lost touch for years." I nodded in understanding. I knew a few things about Christian but this was a new information. I wonder why he left. Was he the type who got bored and just called it quits or the type who went MIA for no reason at all because he could? "But why are you asking though?" Billie suddenly asked, passing me a sandwich. I thanked her. "You've never really asked about Christian." "Oh. No reason except curiousity. I say him at your engagement party, is all." Billie laughed. "Yeah. I was shocked to see him. And even more shocked when I saw you two dancing and laughing together. You both looked like you were ready to f**k each other's brains out on the dance floor." Well, I thought. We already did. Except it was at a hotel. "Me and Christian? Impossible." I said in a bid to get her to change the subject and thankfully, she did. I didn't know how far I was planning on lying to my mum and Billie about certain things, but I hoped I would tell them sooner than later. ####### After eating sandwiches and taking glasses of wine, I headed home tipsy and completely full. I took the elevator and headed to my floor while searching for my keys in my bag. "Ara." A male voice called and I recognized it before I looked up because 1) No one called me Ara except him and 2) I would recognize that voice anywhere. I slowly looked up. Jeff. He was dressed in a denim jacket and jeans. His hair looked disheveled and he looked like he hadn't slept for days. I almost felt miserable for him. Almost. "Jeff. What are you... you shouldn't be here." "I know but I just had to see you. And apologize. And ask you back." "You can't come here and say those things to me after everything you did." Honestly, seeing him brought back the emotions I tried so hard to forget. "I know and I've said sorry. Look, I know I should have chosen you. I should have left Grace and I'm sorry. But it's over between us now, I swear." I shook my head at him. He just didn't get it. I didn't want him to leave his wife for me. I hated him for being with me while he had a wife. I hated him for making a fool of us. "I forgive you, Jeff. Hell, I did a while ago but you see this" — I gestured at us.— " it's over. Just don't leave your wife on my account. Goodnight." I made my way past him and just when I was so close to my door, he grabbed my arm and spun me to him. His grisp was so tight and when I looked into those green eyes of his, I saw the anger all over it and it scared me. "Jeff, you're hurting me." I protested. "I need you to listen to me." He grit, grabbing me more tightly. "No. Leave me alone." When he didn't budge, I started to fight. "I said—" "She said leave her alone." A male voice said and I looked over to see Christian, glaring at Jeff. He looked handsome and really angry. Shit! This probably wasn't going to end well.
