Chapter 5Dawn and I left the movie hand in hand. As we walked into the sunlight I glanced over at her just as she grinned at me. “I want to go to the skate park next,” she said. After a few more blocks, we passed through a regular park of slides and swings to a fenced-in area full of skating teenagers. “You didn’t bring your board,” I said as we walked inside the gate. “I just want to show you everything today.” Dawn led me around, pointing out ramps and rails, once in a while waving at people she knew. None of the others I’d met before were there, and I was glad not to see Malaki’s blue mohawk.
