Chapter 19
Dawn and I leave the quarters before my parents return.
“I think we should say goodbye to some of the others and find out if anyone else knows what’s going on,” I say. “I’ll text Z and see what kind of place she’s in, too.”
Dawn and I find the clique hanging out in the hall. Some of their parents are nearby, and must be working out evacuation details. I’m surprised to see Akasha’s parents look like a normal man and woman. Then I realize if one or both of them are transgender, or even bisexual, they would be banned just the same as anybody else, even if they entered a traditional-looking relationship.
“Hey,” Dawn says.
For some reason the others laugh and smirk.
“I wonder what those two have been doing,” Mal says, but she’s smiling.
