Chapter Five
“Hi, Detective,” Billy Jo said. “Wondering if you could give me a call. It’s about what we were talking about.”
She hit end, after being sent right to his voicemail, unable to stop herself from stepping into things she shouldn’t. She couldn’t exactly leave the kind of personal dirt and details she had in a message for someone to overhear, and she wondered how long it would be until he called her back.
The only distraction from her miserable day had been the dirt she found on Mark’s case. She slid her phone into her purse and then pulled her keys from her pocket, opening her mailbox at the post office in town. She pulled out the flyers and junk mail and closed it up.
“Billy Jo, hi.”
She looked up to a man she hadn’t expected to see again, and her heart thudded. “Jim. Hi…”
