Sunlight filtered through the leaves of the trees that they passed and warmed the body of the car. But the warm sun's rays did nothing to warm the atmosphere within the vehicle. The car swayed on the uneven road, jolting Tara out of her wandering mind. Her eyes snapped to the driver’s seat. Kent was driving her out of the forest and away from the pack houses. There was a heavy silence in the car, one that was only broken by the hum of the engine and the sound of gravel crunching under the wheels as they drove down the rough road. With all the windows rolled up to avoid the dust getting in and choking them, there was no hope of even hearing the birds or the leaves rattling with the breeze.
