Rushing her to the hospital and calling Alpha Leon

1283 Words
The pack hospital had never felt this cold. Not because of the temperature—but because of the silence. The long white corridors stretched endlessly, their polished floors reflecting the harsh glow of overhead lights. The usual sounds of healing—quiet conversations, steady footsteps, the hum of life—were absent. Everything felt paused, suspended in a fragile moment that could shatter at any second. Alpha Leon Blackthorn stood outside the operating room. He did not pace. He did not speak. He did not move. His tall, powerful frame was rigid, shoulders squared, jaw clenched so tightly it ached. The authority that usually surrounded him like an invisible crown was still there, but it felt hollow now—stripped of certainty, stripped of control. The red light above the operating room doors glowed steadily. Operating. Alive… or dying. Leon stared at that light as though his will alone could force it to change. Behind him, the Beta—Marcus—stood silently. He had been the one to receive the call from the maids. The one to find Seraphina unconscious at the bottom of the stairs. The one to rush her through the pack hospital doors while blood soaked into the fabric of her dress. Marcus had seen many injuries in his life. Broken bones. Torn flesh. Wolves on the edge of death. But something about this felt different. Unsettling. The hospital doors opened earlier had drawn attention quickly. Pack members whispered in hushed voices, their eyes wide with shock. Some looked worried. Some curious. And some—though they tried to hide it—looked afraid. Seraphina was the Luna. Or at least… she was supposed to be. Leon finally broke the silence. “How long?” he asked, his voice low and sharp. Marcus straightened. “They said the injuries were serious. She lost a lot of blood before they brought her in. The doctors are doing everything they can.” Leon’s jaw tightened further. “She was healthy. Strong. How could a fall do this?” Marcus hesitated. “She missed a step,” he said carefully. “She fell hard. The stairs are stone. Her leg took most of the impact… but her head—” Leon lifted a hand sharply. “Enough.” Marcus stopped immediately. Leon turned slightly, resting his hands on his hips as he stared at the wall opposite him. His reflection stared back faintly in the polished surface—cold eyes, sharp features, and a face that showed no weakness to the world. But inside? Inside, something twisted. This wasn’t how things were supposed to go. Seraphina was meant to stand beside him. To give him heirs. To strengthen the pack. She was ambitious, fierce, and unafraid to take control where others hesitated. And yet… A strange, unwanted thought crept into his mind. Kiara. Leon’s fingers curled unconsciously. The memory came uninvited—the pale girl standing before him, eyes filled with pain and disbelief as his rejection echoed through the pack grounds. Her silence. Her dignity. Her death. He shoved the thought away violently. This was not the time. This was not her place. Yet the hospital walls whispered with memories he didn’t want to hear. Across the hall, two nurses spoke quietly as they passed. They lowered their voices the moment Leon glanced their way. “Is she going to survive?” one whispered. “I don’t know,” the other replied softly. “The bleeding was severe. And her wolf is… unstable.” Leon’s head snapped up. “What did you say?” The nurses froze. Marcus stepped forward quickly. “Alpha Leon asked you a question.” One nurse swallowed hard. “We—we didn’t mean any disrespect, Alpha.” Leon’s gaze was piercing. “Explain.”The nurse bowed her head. “Luna Seraphina’s wolf isn’t responding normally. It’s restless… almost frantic. The doctors are trying to stabilize both her body and her wolf.” Leon’s chest tightened. A wolf’s instability was dangerous. It meant emotional turmoil. Fear. Guilt. Sometimes… rejection by fate itself. “Do everything necessary,” Leon ordered. “I want her alive.” The nurse nodded quickly. “Yes, Alpha.” As they hurried away, Marcus exhaled slowly. “This could take time.” Leon said nothing. Time. It was always time that punished him. The doors to the hospital opened again, and several pack elders entered. Their expressions were solemn, concerned, but not panicked. They bowed respectfully when they saw Leon. “Alpha,” one of them said gently. “We heard about Luna Seraphina.” Leon inclined his head slightly. “She is in surgery.” “We will wait,” another elder said. “The pack is unsettled. Rumors are spreading.” Leon’s eyes hardened. “Then control them.” The elder nodded. “Yes, Alpha.” They moved to sit along the wall, whispering quietly among themselves. Marcus leaned closer to Leon. “You should sit. You’ve been standing since you arrived.” Leon shook his head. “I stand.” Marcus didn’t argue. Minutes dragged on. Leon’s mind refused to stay quiet. He remembered Seraphina shouting at the maids. Her sharp tongue. Her lack of patience. The way pack members stiffened when she passed. He had noticed. He had simply chosen to ignore it. “She is strong,” he had told himself. “She will learn.” But had she? The image of Kiara cleaning quietly, enduring silently, flickered again in his thoughts. Leon clenched his fists. Why now? Why here? A faint scent brushed his senses—blood mixed with antiseptic. His wolf stirred uneasily within him, pacing restlessly. Something feels wrong, his wolf muttered. Leon didn’t respond. The operating room doors remained closed. A doctor finally emerged briefly, his gloves stained red. He nodded respectfully to Leon. “Alpha,” the doctor said. “We have stabilized the bleeding for now, but she has suffered internal injuries. We are still working.” “For now?” Leon repeated. “Yes,” the doctor said carefully. “The next few hours are critical.” Leon nodded once. “Continue.” The doctor returned inside. Marcus shifted uncomfortably. “Alpha… may I speak freely?” Leon glanced at him. “You already are.” Marcus hesitated. “The pack… they remember Kiara.” Leon stiffened. “She was an Omega,” Leon said coldly. “Her memory is irrelevant.” Marcus met his gaze steadily. “With respect, Alpha… she died after your rejection. And now your chosen mate lies between life and death. Wolves believe in balance. In fate.” Leon’s eyes flashed dangerously. “Are you suggesting—” “I am suggesting nothing,” Marcus said quickly. “Only that the pack will talk. And fear spreads faster than truth.” Leon turned away sharply. The red light still glowed. The hospital felt tighter. Heavier. Leon inhaled slowly. He had chosen Seraphina because she was powerful. Ambitious. A suitable Luna. He had rejected Kiara because she was weak. So why did it feel like the walls themselves were judging him now? Outside, thunder rumbled faintly. The elders exchanged uneasy glances. Marcus straightened as footsteps echoed down the corridor. More warriors arrived, bringing tension with them. Whispers grew louder. “Is she going to die?” “Is this punishment?” “Did the Moon Goddess—” “Silence,” Marcus barked sharply. The warriors fell quiet immediately. Leon closed his eyes for a brief moment. For the first time since becoming Alpha, he felt something dangerously close to doubt. Not fear. Doubt. The operating room doors remained shut. The red light burned on.
