The next few weeks were a whirlwind of emotions for me. I was torn between my love for Alex and my loyalty to my pack. Every time I saw him, I felt a sense of guilt and fear, knowing that I was putting both of us at risk.
But I couldn't stay away from him. He was like a magnet, drawing me in with his kindness and understanding. We spent hours talking and laughing, and I felt like I could be myself around him in a way that I couldn't with anyone else.
One night, we were walking through the forest, hand in hand, when we heard a rustling in the bushes. I tensed up, my senses on high alert, but Alex didn't seem to notice.
"What was that?" he asked, looking around.
I tried to play it off, not wanting to scare him. "Probably just a rabbit," I said, trying to sound casual.
But then I heard a low growl, and I knew that we were in trouble. I turned to Alex, my eyes wide with fear. "You need to go," I said, my voice urgent. "Now."
Alex looked at me, confusion and concern etched on his face. "What's going on?" he asked.
But before I could answer, a group of wolves emerged from the bushes. They were from my pack, and they looked angry and aggressive.
"What the hell is this?" Alex said, taking a step back.
I stepped in front of him, trying to protect him. "I'm sorry," I said, my voice trembling. "I didn't mean for this to happen."
The wolves circled us, their eyes fixed on Alex. "This is unacceptable, Lena," one of them said, his voice low and menacing. "You know the rules. Humans are off-limits."
I felt a surge of anger rise up within me. "He's not a threat," I said, my voice rising. "He's my friend, and he's never done anything to harm us."
The wolves didn't seem to care. They were focused on Alex, and I knew that I had to act fast if I wanted to protect him.
I turned to him, my eyes pleading. "Run," I said. "Get out of here. I'll meet you later."
Alex looked at me, his eyes wide with fear. "I'm not leaving you," he said, his voice shaking.
But I knew that he had to. I couldn't risk his safety any longer. "Please," I said, my voice breaking. "Just go. I'll be okay."
Alex hesitated for a moment, then turned and ran. I watched him go, my heart breaking in my chest.
The wolves turned to me, their eyes cold and unyielding. "You've made a grave mistake, Lena," one of them said. "You've put the entire pack in danger."
I knew that I had messed up. I had let my emotions cloud my judgment, and now I was paying the price. But I wasn't going to give up without a fight.
"I won't let you hurt him," I said, my voice steady. "I'll do whatever it takes to protect him."
The wolves looked at me, then turned and disappeared into the forest. I stood there for a moment, feeling a mix of emotions. I was relieved that Alex was safe, but I was also worried about what would happen next.
As I made my way back to town, I knew that I had a difficult road ahead of me. I had to find a way to balance my love for Alex with my loyalty to my pack. But I wasn't going to give up. I was determined to find a way to make things work, no matter what.
