As they approached the cabin, the cool night air tugged at their fur, the weight of the world seemingly pressing in on them from every side. Sage’s paws thudded softly against the earth as she ran, her wolf instincts just beginning to take over.
It had been so long since she had shifted, so long since she’d felt the freedom of the wolf’s body. But tonight, everything felt slightly different; the transformation, the urgency, the strange tension between her and Kael.
She could hear Kael’s heavy footfalls in front of her, his wolf moving smoothly, effortlessly.
His presence was a constant, a shadow she couldn’t escape, no matter how fast she ran.
As she neared the cabin, she focused on the scent of the trees, the faint scent of pine and earth. But her mind kept drifting back to him, to the warmth of his muscular body close to her, the rhythmic pounding of his paws in the soil.
Suddenly, her paws slid in the mud, her concentration faltering for just a second. She stumbled forward, and before she could regain her balance, she collided with Kael’s side. The impact sent her skidding to the side, her claws scraping against the ground as she tried to steady herself.
Kael, too, lurched, his body instinctively moving to catch her, but it only caused them both to trip over each other. They tumbled to the dirt in a tangle of limbs, fur brushing against fur. Her heart raced, a mixture of adrenaline and embarrassment surging through her as she tried to scramble to her feet.
In the chaos of their clumsy collision, Sage caught a glimpse of Kael's red eyes, glowing brightly in the darkness, his focus unshaken despite the mishap. He let out a low huff of laughter, his wolf's teeth gleaming in the moonlight as he nuzzled her briefly, almost teasingly.
Sage shot him a look, a mixture of irritation and amusement crossing her face. I didn’t ask for you to be so close, she thought, though she couldn’t deny the way his presence comforted her, even in the chaos of the moment. Her wolf bristled at the closeness, yet part of her welcomed it. They were two beings; one human, one wolf; lost in the middle of something neither of them had control over.
They quickly regained their footing, both wolves shaking out the dust and leaves from their fur. The cabin was now in sight, and Sage’s mind snapped back to the plan.
With one last look at Kael, who was already moving toward the door, she steered herself. Stay focused, she thought, as they both approached the cabin. The transformation was always the hardest part for her the longer she stayed in her wolf form, being caught between two forms, two worlds.
She had to shift back into human form to open the door, to be ready for what was coming….
And with that, Sage closed her eyes and concentrated, the familiar ache of shifting coursing through her body, pulling her back into her human skin and removing the wool
sweater that laid over her.
The transformation wasn’t seamless, but Kael was there beside her, waiting, his patience stretching out in the silence.
She fell fowards, to be sick from the change for brief moment. Kael hurried over to here to check on her. “I’m fine” she held out her hand. She began to wonder how on earth she was born into this world. They were all so confident and comfortable being naked with one another.
It was something she wasn’t ever able to over come and that’s why her shifting lacked.
The cold night air hit Sage’s skin as she stood outside the cabin, the chill of the woods biting at her bare flesh. Her body trembled, not just from the cold but from the nervous energy pulsing through her.
The awkwardness between her and Kael was palpable, thick in the air as they both stood there, stark naked, under the shrouded moonlight. Neither of them moved at first.
Kael, usually so confident, was uncharacteristically still. His jaw was clenched, his eyes scanning the her, as if it might hold some clue to the tension swirling between them.
But then He wasn’t even looking at her now, which, strangely, made her feel both relieved and… disappointed?
What did she want from him? Was she a women that tortured a man for pure amusement? Or did she feel something towards him?
Perhaps it was the fact she was respecting Astrid, even though she didn’t like her. It wasn’t any fault of her own it was nature to dislike something you want for youself…
Her thoughts ramble on endlessly in her head so she wouldn’t look..
Sage shifted uncomfortably, her eyes darting to the ground, but she could feel Kael’s presence in the air, heavy and undeniable.
He was standing just a few feet away from her, his towering form naked under the moonlight, muscles defined and rippling like liquid under his skin.
His body had always been impressive, but now, in the stillness of the night, she couldn’t help but take notice of how his body seemed to command the space around him.
