Hunted down in a small village!

The night was heavy with silence, broken only by the rhythmic pounding of Sage’s white paws against the forest floor. Her wolf form cut through the shadows like a blade, her crystal-blue eyes glowing faintly in the dark. The air was cool against her fur, but every nerve in her body was on fire, urging her forward. She was close. She could feel it. The edge of the territory was near, and the unknown “Evander” was waiting just beyond it to take her to freedom. Then the sound came; a deep snarling growl that sent a shiver down her spine. Sage barely had time to react before a massive figure lunged out of the bushes, colliding with her mid-stride. She let out a sharp yelp as the force of the impact sent them both tumbling to the ground. Claws and teeth clashed in the moonlight. Kael’s wolf form towered over hers, his dark fur bristling as he bared his fangs towards her neck. His carmine eyes burned with fury, locking onto hers with an intensity that made her freeze for a moment too long. Sage twisted beneath him, trying to break free, but he was too strong. His claws dug into the earth on either side of her, pinning her down. Her wolf snarled, snapping back at him, but Kael’s growl was a warning; a deep, animalistic sound that spoke of dominance and anger. Submit. But Sage wouldn’t. She thrashed again, her movements becoming frantic, until Kael let out an almost mournful howl and lighting his grip back just enough for both of them to shift. The change was swift, their sweating bodies transforming in the glow of the moonlight. Fur receded, claws vanished, and the world spun until Sage found herself staring up at him in a human form. Naked. Over her. Her breath came in short, shallow gasps as she scrambled backward, her hands clutching her fanny pack to her chest as a shield. Kael stood before her, his chest heaving, his dark hair falling into his eyes. The moonlight cast sharp shadows across his face, and muscular chest; making him look more wolf than man. “Are you insane?” she hissed, her voice trembling with both rage and fear. Trying to hide her body from him. Kael’s eyes blazed as he stepped closer, unbothered by his own nakedness. “You were running from me!?” His eyes squinted in doubt. “Of course I was running!” she snapped, whispering at him while pushing herself to her feet. “What did you expect me to do? Stay here and let you control me like some; some grand prize for the rest of my life!?” “I never wanted to control you!” he shouted, defensively his voice breaking. “Everything I’ve ever done; it’s been for you, Angel. You think I don’t see how miserable you ? I’ve tried to help you. I’ve given you everything, and you still look at me like I’m the enemy.” Sage’s heart twisted with anger at his words. “I never asked for your help! I never asked for long crooked smirks from you!” she said coldly. “I never asked for any of this, Kael. You’re the one who’s turned this into some twisted obsession, for your own personal convenience to be able to make me believe that you are not the man who has always made me feel bad!” His jaw clenched, and for a moment, he looked like she’d struck him. “Twisted?” he repeated, his voice dropping to a whisper. “You think this is twisted?” He took another step toward her, his hands trembling at his sides. “Do you know what it’s like to love someone who looks at you like you’re nothing? To spend every day pretending that what I feel doesn’t matter because you can’t stand to see it? I’ve loved you since we were kids, Angel. Since the moment I realized what you meant to me. And I’m not going to let you throw that away because you’re too afraid to feel anything!” Sage’s throat tightened, but she forced herself to hold his gaze. “I don’t care,” she said, her voice cutting through the night like a blade. Kael froze. And for a moment, the forest was silent. The weight of her words hung between them, suffocating and unrelenting. The only noise that rattled through the air was the drum of Kael’s beating chest. “You don’t care?” he repeated slowly, his voice hollow. “No,” she said, her tone firm. “I don’t care, Kael. I never have. And I never will. And you can’t make me.” She whispered to him slowly. He took a step back, his hands falling to his sides. The fire in his eyes dimmed, replaced by something she couldn’t quite name—hurt, betrayal, despair. “Is that what you really think?” he asked, his voice barely above a whisper. Sage didn’t answer. She couldn’t.
