A LOST CAUSE
Francesco held up his hands in desperation, floundering with Elena’s situation. He pointed a finger at the policeman, who had stood his ground.
“Listen, like I said. We have more important cases here to deal with.”
Francesco rested his hands on the counter then banged them hard against it. “Damn it! This is a woman’s life we’re talking about. Something bad could’ve happened to her. Don’t you even care?”
“Of course we care,” said the policeman. He tugged up his pants with a belt that seemed to need another few notches. “But we’ve had a lot of cases where we investigated, wasted a lot of resources, and then it ends up that the missing person ran away or left home to live with a boyfriend.
