Bandit Extermination 1 - preparations

Listening to the old man stories for hours again he finally gave me a quest. Bandit extermination, kill the bandit and take back Verm lost item.

Carefully looking at the quest which previously didn't have any rank makes me kind of uneasy but the reward though. It's undeniably good with a bit of risk.

After giving me the quest he brought me up to his store looking for equipment that I would need and he recommends me a set item of leg protector, pants, body armor, gauntlet and face mask that cover my mouth and neck. Everything is painted in black. The body armor and pants were made from leather I don't know if it's coated or the leather was already black from the start. While the leg protector and the gauntlet are still base on the black leather it is covered with black scales. And the mask was made from a different material it is soft to the touch but firm.

"So how's that? That set is one of the best you currently can use. It has no requirement and it can enhance your stealth, muffle your footstep sound and remove the sound of your breathing."

"Yeah, it's nice but it has no shoes in the set. Can I use a boot separate from the set item?"

"Usually it won't be a problem but the set or rather the leg protector is imbued with 'Silent Step' so if you use shoes or a boot it will cancel the skill. Anyway did you know what a set item is? Set item is basically a magic array and if you take it apart it won't works except if it imbued with few magic arrays it will work just fine. Still, that will have its own rules. Like, it would only active itself if the correct combination is placed."

He explained while stroking his messy beard. There are crumbs here and there dropped because of his stroke. I wonder when the last time this man takes' his bath was. His smell is covered by charcoal and burning smell probably because he is always in front of his furnace all day long. I never really take a closer look on him before but after the crumbs from his food left over is dropping from his beard I just can't…

Is this an example of a man who relies on his wives too much?

"How much is all of this? And I still don't have a weapon yet. The stiletto only left with a single digit durability from the strain I did in the basement."

Seeing him nodding and stretch out his hand I gave him the stiletto.

"I'll repair it for you for free. From what I saw with how you fight a dirk or an estoc would be perfect for you. What about throwing dagger? A set of five is 1 gold coin if you buy it separately its 25 silver a piece. You know every assassin need a throwing dagger, even non-assassin have it for emergency purposes or something. If you buy five-set I'll pitch in a pair of modified mini-hidden crossbow 'Knife Ejector' for half-price. Five-set of throwing dagger and pair of Knife Ejector only 10 gold coin. You won't see this in any other shop. And don't forget about the poison either. Throwing dagger uncoated with poison is like an estoc without its sharp point. And…"

He goes on and on like a professional salesman.

"So, how much is all of this? I don't have much money. I only have 23 gold and I plan to use some of it for personal stuff."

"Don't worry you can pay me in a month or two or maybe three. I believe in you and my eyes can distinguish whose person is can be trusted and whose not. Hmm… its 80 for the set of 'The Creep', 15 for ten set of throwing dagger and pair of 'Knife Ejector', 22 for the 'Peeper Robe', 11 for a pair of estoc, 3 for a dirk and half for a pouch of poison. So in total its 131 gold and 50 silver you can give me the fifteen gold you have for the subsist. Try it on so if there is something lacking I can modify for you."

I gaze deeply at all the item spread on the table and thought if it's okay to take the deal. Then, it crossed my mind: doesn't this deal feels too nice to be true? Now I felt wary and worry at the same time.

"Why are you putting that kind of face? Are you probably worry about the money? You shouldn't need to worry about that. You'll raid the bandit so all of their wealth is all yours, except the ring I ask you to get. That's mine."

Still, my wariness doesn't lessen. The fishiness is still there.

"What are you worrying now? You've had lots of worries. Don't think too much just punch your anxiety in the face and you'll be fine."

"Erm… I'm just thinking. How long they have been there? Why aren't they get exterminate yet? I mean it's close to the capital right? How many are they? Can I really do it? ..."

"Easy there! You had too many questions. They've been there for these past few years. Well, I heard they got a connection with nobles so it's hard to catch them with an army and if we send mercenaries they always get killed before they finish their job. If we tried to send a high-level mercenary its also get hindered by their backing, the noble. They should've just told Titan and all problems will get solved by his hands."

"What!? And what is the thing that makes you send me there then?"

"Why are you so fussy? Aren't cha a man? Man up! And you are a drifter if you get a corner you just need to go back to your world. Easy right?"

What? What is your basis saying it was easy? Easy your arse! I shouted in my head.

"No, it is not. Fine! But, I think the reward was too low based on the difficulty of the mission. Rise it a bit, old man."

If you want to live an easy life you need to be a bit shameless. That is one of my motto in life.

"Okay, how about 50 gold coin? If it was me I rather burn the whole mountain down but the plant master would kill me if I really do it. Right! Don't forget to search for the proof of the noble involvement."

"Okay. Is there anything I need to be wary of?"

I saw him shook his head then an update for the quest pop up with an additional quest.

Ohh… there is fame as the reward this time and penalty. Two new feature popped-up.

Unequipping all my equipment I start with the leg protector and it fits perfectly. Then the pants, body armor, and everything on the table were no more except the weapons. Most of them fit just fine but the old dwarf said it was no good and he will make it perfectly fit for me. The only problem is the Knife Injector that makes "clank-clank" sound with those in my hands I can't go stealth-kill my enemy or run away.

Noticing the problem with Knife Injector he shake it around then look at me and said "I can tone it down but I can't make it noiseless. But worry not, the robe has noise reduction spell engraved. Combine with the robe the noise won't be noticeable. You can go do what you want to do after two hours go back here to get all of them. And I don't need any down-payment just pay it in full when you have the money. Now go away and put your old equipment first or you'll get arrest by them patrolling soldier."

Shooing me with his hands he brought the items to his workplace in the back. I really want to beat this old man sometimes, either because of his expression or words.

Seeing him gone I open the menu and I log out from the game to get some lunch.

Sitting down on my bed I look at the drawer beside the bed. I only decorated it with a weird looking lamp and a photo of me, Eva, and grandpa plus a bunch of kids in front of our candy store. I don't know why I always look at the photo when I woke up. Is it because of me not wanting to forget grandpa face or just simple reason because I put it on top of the drawer? It's been three years since…

I walk around the house and found Eva eating on the dining table. Hearing my weird footstep she turns her head towards me and smile.

"What did you want to eat brother? I make an omelet and chicken sausage but I ate your sausage portion I'll fry it in a minute."

"Finish your food I'm fine with just omelet."

"What are you saying, brother, I only need to put it into the microwave for few minutes."

"Okay-okay. So how's the store? I haven't been helping you lately."

"Don't worry I can handle it and it's not like our store is bustling with costumer anyway. Brother, I watch the news and they said in a month Brink will have their competition but it's not clear yet. Will you join them? The prize money was so big. Maybe we can buy bionics for you."

She looks so enthusiast when talking about money. Sigh… my only family is slave to money. Why is she so obsessed with money I wonder? Finishing her lunch she excuses herself and took a nap on the couch in the living room.

Cleaning the dish I look at the girl who sleeps so peacefully. It's contagious. Well, I'll take a nap myself in the room. Before I fall asleep I put an alarm for one and half hour so I won't be late.
