He came back home earlier. But it was not for her. It was to marry Mandy Berkeley?
The Gods are playing her like a joke.
Here she was trying her best to get herself divorced from the older man so that she could be with Wesley.
She lost her virginity for that. But now, Wesley's getting married to her sister?!
"Gina, are you there?"
A black limousine stopped at the side of the road. The car window was half down, and someone was staring at Gina's sad figure. The man then made a phone call.
"Sir, I've executed your orders." He then threw a hotel room card out of the car and into the trash can next to the road.
…
-Musk Mansion-
Gina was limping back into her room.
"Missus, you're home?" Gina heard Nanny McZoe's voice the moment she closed the door.
"Yes, I'm exhausted. You should head to bed soon as well." Gina sprawled on her bed. Her eyes were swollen and red.
The nanny sighed. Since she's received orders to take care of Gina, she's never once seen her husband come over.
Gina was not being accommodated as well. She insisted on not using any of her husband's money other than food. She even worked odd jobs to pay her school fee.
McZoe's heart ached to see her missus like this. She hoped that her husband's return would have made some amends.
They're husband and wife anyway. Life had to go on.
Gina slid into the bathtub under the water.
She relieved herself of her resilient facade and started weeping underwater.
Wesley said that she was still the one he loved the most, even if he were to be married to Mandy.
That's ridiculous.
But who's Gina to blame it on him?
The moment Wesley left the country, her father sold her to an old, disgusting man as a wife.
She was the one who betrayed their promise first. It's normal for Wesley to marry her sister. He wanted a better life for himself...
At that moment, she heard her phone ring.
She wrapped herself in her towel and walked out.
It's a call from Mandy.
She took a deep breath and answered the call.
"Hello."
"Father asks for you to come home tomorrow," Mandy said. It was clear that she made this phone call unwillingly.
"I have classes tomorrow." Gina rejected her.
Gina heard a hush of whispers from the phone, and Wesley took over the phone.
"Gina, Uncle Berkeley has something important to inform. Just come home."
Tears welled up in Gina's eyes again, but she tried to hold all of them back.
"Gina, let's talk when we meet, okay?" Wesley said, seeing that he did not get any reply from her.
Before Wesley said anything else, Mandy summoned him.
"Wes, I'm hungry."
"We just had our meal, didn't we?" Wesley asked.
"I want to eat… you."
"You're one thirsty vixen!"
Their scandalous conversation was like a knife to Gina's heart, and she hung up the call immediately.
Just as Gina was ready to head to bed, her phone rang again.
This time around, it's from her shitty dad, Charles Berkeley.
"Hello?" Gina answered the call indifferently.
"Gina, come home tomorrow."
"Dad…"
"Your sister's about to be engaged with Wesley. How could you not be back home?" Charles seemed to know that this wasn't convincing enough, so he added, "You've always wanted to visit your mother's grave, haven't you? It's her death anniversary soon. Come home."
Gina knew that her mother was long gone when she came home, but she had no chance to send her prayers.
Charles had always stopped her with a million excuses.
"Alright." Gina wanted closure tomorrow.
….
-In the Imperial Hotel's VIP room-
Gale knocked on the door and entered the room.
He carefully chose his words as he saw that his boss was not in the mood.
"Mr. Hawke, this is the CCTV footage that we found of your missus in the Imperial Hotel."
Stephen was stunned when he saw the footage.
Missus?
Wasn't this the girl who wanted him to mount her?
The thought that it could be someone else the other night perturbed him.
And she claimed that her husband was cruel? It seemed to him that he was being too soft to her!
Gale saw that his boss was infuriated, and he bit his lips and handed another document over to Stephen.
"This is everything about your wife."
Stephen looked at the table, gesturing for Gale to put it on there.
He then opened the document with his slender fingers.
"The youngest daughter of Charles Berkeley?" Stephen's voice went even colder.
"Mr. Hawke, you know of Charles Berkeley?" Gale was utterly surprised.
Charles Berkeley's company had been in the red for many years. It was nothing compared to a giant corporation like Evergreen Holdings.
"I've seen him a few times at my uncle's place. He brought calligraphic art as a gift at that time."
Although Lionel Hawke, Stephen's uncle, was not holding any critical positions in the corporation, the vast social network was enough for people to latch onto him, hoping for some connection. It was usual for someone like Charles Berkeley to do so as well.
But Stephen did not have a good impression of Charles. He had never gotten any job done correctly.
"Miss Berkeley is Charles Berkeley's youngest daughter. But she's the actual heir for the Berkeley Corporation."
Stephen nodded. He seemed to have grasped the idea of what was happening.
The Berkeley Corporation grew from what used to be the Whittaker Corporation. It's Gina's mother's family business. Charles took over after getting married to her. But Whittaker seemed to have gone mad after that marriage and disappeared with her daughter.
A few years later, Charles remarried and reformed a new family. Gina was then found again three years ago.
Gale observed Stephen's expression and continued his explanation carefully, "Wesley Portman is the Portman's illegitimate child. He had always been neglected in his family and once stayed with the Berkeleys' for a short period. He's dated both your wife and her sister simultaneously."
"He's a fuckboy." Stephen raised his brows.
"You know what a fuckboy is?" Gale was surprised at that.
"I know that you have not done your job well, causing my wife to feel that she's been neglected." Stephen slammed the document shut and stared at Gale indifferently.
It didn't occur to Gale that his boss favored female cosplayers because he had never been interested in any…
The next day, Gina took a day off from her classes.
She laid on her bed till evening before heading to the Berkeleys'.
When she got out of the taxi, a handsome man walked toward her.
Wesley's expression was sullen as he stared at the taxi leaving. He grabbed onto her arms, "You were in a taxi, right?"
Gina flung his hands off and walked away, "That has nothing to do with you."
Wesley pulled the strings on her backpack, and she fell into his arms.
He put his arms around her waist and buried his face in her lengthy hair, "I was only worried about you. You're a naïve girl, and you'd get conned easily. Please do not trust any other men except me. They'll not treat you right."
"And you will?" She pushed him away.
Wesley stumbled and regained his stability. "Gina, please listen to me. There's a reason why I need to be with Mandy."
