I look at him and softly ask, “what happened?”
He doesn’t respond. He simply turns his face away… as if even looking at me has become difficult for him. His gaze fixes on the water flowing below its loud, rushing sound making the silence between us even heavier.
My heart grows restless. I immediately try to snatch the phone from his hand.
“Tell me what happened, I need to know!” my voice carries both panic and insistence.
He keeps staring at the water… then slowly, very slowly says, “Max is alive.”
