Chapter Twenty- Eight

It was the night before the Gala and to say Mae was nervous was an understatement. For the past two weeks Ace and Kai had been very nice to her. What she imagined it would be like being with them level of nice. Neither pushed her boundaries and always was making sure she felt comfortable.

" Rest up tomorrow there's a surprise for you" Ace told her before leaving her alone in her room.

How the hell could she sleep after being told something like that. Despite everything she managed to pass out and woke upto her alarm blaring. She took got dressed and made her way downstairs for breakfast. It wasn't until eight so she had all day to make herself presentable. Not even one of the Alphas was at breakfast so she finished very quickly .

The day went by very quickly and she was taking a shower at four. She did her hair and make up very nicely and got herself into the dress they bought her, as well as putting on six inch heels. She carefully made her way downstairs to see the Alphas dressed up in nice black suits.

Ace whistled at her when she saw her cause Mae to blush.

" You look beautiful " Kai told her as he grabbed onto her hand.

" Thank you" she told him with a smile.

The four of them left the pack house and got into a limo that was parked there.

" Where's Alyssa and Katherine?" She asked no one in particular.

" They're both meeting us there after all the important pack members leave" Max told her.

Hmm OK she thought to herself " So what's this surprise?" She asked them.

" You'll see" Ace told her.

Mae became really sad she knew tonight they were going to be overthrown. The worst part they didn't even see it coming. She still had no idea how but hopefully she had done enough. She was also starting to second guess if she made the right choice or not. But she knew well enough that it was only a matter of time before they went back to their asshole selves.

This was her chance to be free of them. It wasn't a long drive and the limo had stopped. Ace got out first and extended his hand to Mae for her to grab. She smiled and took his hand. Wherever they were was absolutely beautiful looked like a castle.

Ace grabbed onto one hand as Kai grabbed onto another. Max walked in front of them as they all walked in together. Everyone in the room started clapping when the four of them walked in.

" We have things to do well find you later. The bar is in the back over there" Kai whispered into her ear.

The three of them were gone as Mae wandered around the room giving people smiles as they bowed or curtsed at her.

" Come with me" a voice spoke from behind her.

She turned and saw it was that mysterious warrior. She nodded and took a quick scan before leaving the main room with him. He led her to a closet in some random hallway.

" How are you feeling?" he asked her.

" Nervous I don't know how I feel about this now" she told him truthfully.

" Don't you dare back out now" he warned her as his eyes started to go black.

" I'm not. I'm just upset that's all" she told him crossing her arms over her chest.

" If you back out there will be consequences

you think how they've treated you up until now is bad. It will be much worse I promise you that" he told her.

She sighed " Fine what do you need from me?" She asked him.

" At ten I want you to bring Ace and Kai into the first bedroom on the top floor. We'll take care of the rest" he told her.

" Why is there bedrooms here? What even is this place?" She asked him.

" Fancy hotel. will you do it or not?" he asked her.

She sighed but nodded her head. He led her back into the main room.

" Two hours" he whispered into her ear as he suddenly disappeared.

Max was making his way over to her and she smiled at him. He grabbed onto her hand and started dragging her out of the room.

" Max what's going on?" She asked him very nervous what was going to happen.

He shoved her roughly into a room with a large table. Looked like maybe they held meetings there or something.

" Why were you talking with Lyle?" he asked her as his fists clenched.

" I don't know who that is" she told him.

" Bullshit. I saw you leave with him and come back with him" He told her.

" Max" she started to say when he cut her off.

" Lyle has been trying to kill us for years so he can take over the pack. Because of his family status all we can do is continue to stop him but not actually kill him. It's beyond stupid" he told her as Mae gasped.

" I had no idea he wanted you dead. Honestly" she told him.

" So you admit you know him and that there was some sort of a plan " he told her rolling his eyes.

Mae started to cry without realizing it " I wouldn't take part in killing you I promise. All I knew is he wanted to overthrow you. I want out" she told him.

Max glared at her " So that's what this has all been about? Getting closer to my brother's just to stab them in the back. Literally " he told her.

" Max please" she begged him.

" I'm done with you. Tell me the plan, and tell me the plan now" he told her.

Mae took a deep breath wiping her tears and telling him everything.

" Great " he told her leaving the room without another word.

Mae slid to the floor and started crying hard. After some time she got herself up and found a bathroom as she cleaned up her make up.

" There you are" Kai said finding her and taking her hand.

" Ace and Max are waiting for us upstairs " he told her as they started walking upstairs.

" No no Kai" she begged him.

" I know. Just play it up" he whispered into her ear.

She didn't say anything and continued the walk upstairs. The second they were upstairs Kai closed the door behind her. The brothers nodded at each other and threw open the closests pulling out men and throwing each of them to the ground. Ace applied all the pressure in his foot onto Lyle 's neck.

" Once again your efforts have failed Lyle. One day the council will have had enough and we will finally be allowed to execute you" Ace told him.

" Interesting tactic using her though. Didn't see that coming" Kai said.

Ace moved his foot so Lyle could speak " This wouldn't have even been a possibility if you three weren't such bastards to her. It wasn't hard to convince her. I never even told her anything just that we would take care of it" He told them.

" You knew he wanted us dead?" Kai looked at her.

" No I swear I didnt" she told him.

Lyle just laughed " she's lying" he told them as he smirked at her.

" No you're the lying bastard" she told him.

" I think the usual six months in prison will do you some good. Try again fucker" Ace told them as some warriors came in taking the three of them away.

" You're so f*****g stupid Mae. I spent so much time convincing Ace that you were Luna potential. That's what this has all been about. By showing you that we actually aren't trash men and that you could be our Luna. But you f****d yourself" he told her.

" I didn't know he wanted you all dead" she told him as she was crying.

" It doesn't matter. The fact you were fine with a plan to get rid of us is enough" Kai told her.

" Ace was going to be dropping Katherine. Max would've eventually been convinced " Kai spoke when Max cut her off.

" Uh no I wouldn't have" Max said as Kai rolled his eyes.

" Whatever keep telling yourself that" he said as Kai stepped closer to her.

" I can't believe we were stupid enough to trust you. Stupid enough to think you were actually decent" he said as he smacked Mae hard.

She winced from his slap as the tears were falling fast. He went to hit her again when Ace stepped in between them.

" Enough Kai" he told his brother.

" That's rich coming from you big brother. I've lost count of how many times you've hit her" Kai told Ace.

" It was wrong then and it's wrong now. Enough " Ace told him.

" I'm definitely blindsided and hurt. But what did we expect we haven't been decent to her, her entire time here. Did you actually think she would just willingly accept us?" Ace asked Kai who rolled his eyes.

" Whatever I'm done with you" Kai told her as he left the room slamming it shut behind him.

" Same" Max said as he too left the room.

" Ace please" she begged of him.

" I'm not upset you tried to leave. I'm just surprised I thought you actually liked and wanted us. Impressive " he told her as he went to leave.

" Don't come downstairs. The entire point of tonight was to present you as Luna to the important people of the pack. Someone will come get you when the party is over. I'll leave food and drinks for you" he told her as he opened the door to leave.

" Please" she screamed at him trying to get him to listen.

" By the way, had you just asked I would've considered getting you rejected so you could leave. There's no way in hell that's happening now. Consider this your punishment, continuing to live with us. I hope you enjoyed the nice us, that's never happening again" he told her closing the door behind him.

Mae collapsed to the floor hysterically crying.
