As soon as he was up and about next morning, Tibullus learnt that there was trouble.
Paulus met him in the main room. “Your girls,” he said. “Do you know what they did with the pater when they were sent to him yesterday?”
“They told me they did Mountains and Valley. Your father asked them to.”
“You didn’t tell them to go further?”
“What before they went to see him? I didn’t even see them beforehand.”
“The mater’s making a bit of a fuss. She says it went further than it ought to have done.”
“I understand he touched them while they were doing Mountains and Valley,” Tibullus replied, puzzled. “But that must have been your father’s decision.”
“I’m afraid the mater objects. She didn’t mind him looking, but he shouldn’t have touched, and she blames your girls.”
