"We'll head home now, Lily," he told her, already guiding her across the field. "There are too many things going on right now for us to sit here and watch a movie," he said, his tone slightly sour, as if it had been a ridiculous idea in the first place. Lily was disappointed, even if she didn't show it.
"Okay," she said softly, looking down and allowing him to pull her toward the car. If he picked up on her melancholy, he didn't show it.
