Veering away from the battle she had just experienced with the intention of returning to it at a later time, she moved her thoughts back to the unborn child. The first name that came to her mind was Alpha Cyrus Kane, a noble, kind-hearted leader from Greece who had been alpha of his northeastern pack for the past 100 years. Dea knew that the poor man had waited much too long for his mate, but the moon goddess was a patient woman. If it took 100 years for the perfect match to be born, Dea had no problem waiting that long. She was a firm believer in not rushing perfection.
Dea knew that Cyrus would take great care of the female, and that they would compliment and help each other. Cyrus had done many good things in his life, and he had placed the Luna Dea greatly. She knew he deserved such a mate; as shockingly beautiful and good as she would be. With the pair in mind, Dea focused her thoughts on binding the souls. Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion when she found that the bond would not seal.
It was only then that she saw what she had done. The bond would not form because Dea had already bonded the female with someone else. Dea's eyes widened in horror at the mistake she had made just a few moments ago, a mistake that she had never made in all of her years. A mistake that could be catastrophic. A mistake that could not be reversed, as bonds were permanent and could not be broken.
Dea pondered over her mistake; she hadn't shut the mental portal between the mate pairing and the war that she had witnessed! She remembered focusing all of her powers on Alaricus in the same way that she might do while forming bonds. She was horror-stricken and for once, hadn't a single clue of what to do. She felt a tear roll down her white cheek at the future pain the pure soul would have to endure once in the hands of the evil king. And it was all her fault, accident or not.
For Luna Dea had paired the kindest and most innocent of souls to the beast that was the Alpha King-Alaricus Night.

[18 years later]
"Lily, I'll be fine! I'm a wolf, remember?" Bree chuckled while still holding her newly injured foot in front of her so that she could inspect it. Lily smiled back.
"Hardly! You know that the fast healing doesn't come in until we can can actually shift. Please, just let me look at it. You could get an infection. I didn't go to all of those nursing classes for nothing!" Bree rolled her eyes but motioned for Lily to come forward anyway. Heaven knows if Lily wanted to help, no one could stop her.
Lily walks toward her best friend of 10 years and examined the injury. As usual, Lily's intuition had been right. Bree had a piece of old wood lodged inside of the sole. The wood was in so deep that Lily knew she would need a needle as well as tweezers. This would definitely get infected if not treated. Not wanting to scare Bree who was fairly squeamish when it came to medicine, Lily smiled up at her and told her that it was just a small splinter and she only needed to remove the wood.
Lily ran to her perfectly organized room and pulled out her first aid kit. She shuffled through it for a few seconds before finding what she needed. Needle, tweezers, band-aids, and antibiotic ointment in hand, Lily ran back down to where Bree was sitting.
It didn't take her long to remove the splinter and bandage it up. And with Lily's impeccable skills that she had acquired over the past few years with medicine, Bree hardly felt a thing. She thanked Lily gratefully as Lily cleaned up and returned the first aid kit to her room.
When Lily went back downstairs, she heard the sound of the front door opening. Her senses were immediately filled with the familiar scent of her father. She nearly sprinted toward him with a breath-taking smile and he wrapped her in his arms immediately.
"Daddy, you're home," Lily said, almost to herself. Michael Delane, Lily's father as well as beta of their pack, had been gone for the past three weeks. True to his responsibilities as beta, he had had to accompany the alpha on a potentially dangerous trip to a neighboring pack to discuss some old treaties. He wasn't supposed to return until tomorrow, at the earliest, so Lily was beyond overjoyed.
"Of course I'm home, angel," Michael spoke, kissing the top of her head. "You didn't worry about me too much now, did you?" Lily chuckled as she pulled away from his warm embrace. Together, they walked to the kitchen where Bree was still sitting at the counter typing on her phone.
"Oh hey Mr. Delane!" She spoke, looking up. "How was your trip?"
"Very good, thank you. And how are you? How's your mother?"
"We're great! She's out grocery shopping right now. I should actually get going, my sister needs me to pick her up from soccer practice."
"Tell her I said hi, will you?"
"Will do," Bree said, walking toward the door. "Bye Mr. Delane, bye Lily! Thanks for fixing my foot."
"Bye Bree! Of course," Lily smiled. Bree gave one more wave before she was out the door.
"Well I should probably go grocery shopping as well. I can imagine our cupboards are pretty bare. I was thinking of stopping at the store on my way home but I just had to see my little girl first." Lily smiled in return and kissed her father on the cheek.
