The Majarlican Demigod
Chapter 39: The Fall of The Captain
Zephyra and Talia were still half asleep when they got up from the bed.
"You're making a fuzz, Ally. We still have one and a half hours to sleep," Zephyra contests.
"I've already got a lead, and we have to be there right away!" I kept on pulling them.
"Ok. Ok." Zephyra and Talia stand up, "Where is your lead?" Talia asked.
"It's in the forest. The spot where Hamilton and Ninna are," I told them, "I need to go back right there. Hurry up, ok?" I use my teleporting ability to go back to the children I met.
Luckily, they are still there waiting for me.
"This is me, the lady from the west," I greeted them.
"Ah! You're the popular Lady Althea of the West!" the little girl recognized me.
"Popular? I've never heard of..." My headaches as I remember something from the past-- I was not there where the explosion happened. Still, the news reported at least hundreds of children died, "that..."
"Ally!" Zephyra and Talia arrived.
Talia takes a closer look at the children, "These necklaces were... Grenade?" She was scared, "Suicide bombers!" She mumbled.
"Talia, do you know how that thing works?" Zephyra asked.
"You need to cut the ties carefully. If you pull the trigger, it will explode," Talia said.
Zephyra looks aggravated, "Kids, stay still. Don't move or react unnecessarily. I will detach that grenade from you. If you move, you'll die. Are we clear?"
The kids were terrified by my sister.
"Um, that's my sister. She won't hurt you," I tried to calm them down.
The kids nodded at me, and then Zephyra moved her hands. The kids froze, and it seemed like Zephyra was forcing them to hold their breaths.
"Talia, cut the ties!" Zephyra commands,
"I don't have anything that can cut it. If I burn it, it will explode!" Talia answered in a panic.
"I have a knife in my shoes. Take it." Zephyra said.
Talia searched Zephyra and found a little knife. "This is so tiny," she commented on it.
"That's for an emergency, Talia. Hurry up. The kids might actually die here." Zephyra said.
Talia carefully cut the tie and handed the explosives to me. That was a nerve-wracking moment. Zephyra wrapped the grenade in a sand ball and burned it in the air above the sea.
My sister took one kid with her, and I took the other to help other grenade holders while Talia got the others to help.
There were hundreds of grenade holders who wore the same clothing. Randall created a small island in the middle of the sea to gather all kids. Zephyra controlled their breathing while Talia removed the grenade that hung on the children's necks. It was a successful operation, but that's not where our problem ends. Their Big Brother is still yet to be caught by other teammates. One of the kids who knows where the attacker leads the way. Now that I must stay with these kids, I'm unsure how the search goes.
"You need to come over here, Althea!" Brighton suddenly summons me.
"Where are you?" I asked.
"We're in the middle of the city. The hideout is underground. You will see the team captain floating above a tall building." He answered.
"Ok, I'll be there."
I flew toward the others, and I saw Hamilton above a building. Looks like he was on the lookout, so I approached him immediately.
"Team captain, where's Saphrias?" I asked.
"She's interrogating the attacker in the underground with others," he responded, "Apparently, the attacker already planted a device called timed bombs all over the East. It's too late to save the whole city now. We can at least ask the residents to vacate the place, but there were too many in here, and one-fourth of the population was merely human," It sounds like the team captain has given up on the situation.
If only there were someone who could move an object without having to touch it aside from Brighton.
"Those timed bombs can't be easily deactivated. One wrong move and all of it will explode. This city will be nothing but a memory." Hamilton said, "The attacker's intent is to die along with other residents of the East."
Something inside me felt anger for that attacker. Out of rage, I came down the underground, where I sensed Brighton. It was on a passage. When I reached the place, the attacker was laughing while tied up with iron strings,
"Fool Majarlicans, you think that if you hold me captive, you can deactivate those bombs that were planted in every inch of this land?" the attacker said, "You're no supreme than humans, Saphrias. It will always be you and all the TNGY chairmen's fault that East is burning to ashes!"
Saphrias looks pissed as ever. Why won't she use the mind-reading to command this guy to deactivate the bombs?
"Why won't Saphrias use her mind control powers on this man?" I asked.
"No one can use their mind commanding skills on him. Artes is backing him up," Brighton responded.
We're dead. If Saphrias, an exceptionally skilled maestra, is no match for this guy, how will we win? I need to calm down and think carefully.
This insane person is Artes's pawn… and Artes is a demigod.
A demigod can only measure up to a demigod.
"HEY, SUICIDAL BOMBER!" I nervously shouted.
"Another useless person, yeah?" The attacker's face is creepy. He added that he has long, uncombed, sticky-looking hair.
"Deactivate the bombs in this instance!" I demanded.
"HUH?" he laughed at me, "Are you kidding me? If the mind-master can't make me do it, who are you to talk to me like that?"
I concentrated so I could use the mind skill I acquainted with Brighton's physical body. Based on what I learned from training, I can use it to its maximum level if I focus on one power. Zephyra might be better at using her skill as an elemental demigod, but if she can, why won't I be able to do it? I, Althea of the West, am a demigod who regressed is no different from the rest of the demigods.
My body was filled with an extraordinary power I felt for the first time when I opened my eyes, "Deactivate the bombs… now!" I told the attacker.
"Artes will soon get you!" he shouted as he struggled to not be entirely consumed by my command.
"I know," I responded as if I was not afraid, "Terrence, release him at once. He will deactivate the bombs now,"
"—But Lady Al-"
"Do it." Brighton amends.
Terrence released the attacker, who went and followed my order to deactivate the explosives he had implanted. The attacker has a device that looks like from another world, and I don't know what they are called. It's like a box, but they have pictures and lights, and he is pressing on a tinier chest with strange characters and symbols on it. It looks like a typing device like what the maestras use, but it's smaller. All the red blinking lights were gone.
"Althea was able to command this guy to deactivate the bombs!" Xanthal exclaimed.
"How do you know?" Terrence asked.
"The computer indicates whether the bombs were deactivated or not. It says that everything has been turned off." Xanthal answered.
I stopped controlling the mind of the attacker.
"You might be able to stop the destruction of this land, but you will not be able to stop the destruction of this kingdom, Althea," the guy looked at me with a different voice I hadn't heard before.
Suddenly, he pressed a button on his wrist and could fly. We followed the attacker outside and tried to catch his lightning speed, but even I failed. Luckily, Hamilton was up there and saw the person.
That was so close!
But then, while the team captain was holding down the bomber in a heartbeat, an explosion occurred in the air.
The explosion was deafening…
"Hamilton is falling!" Terrence exclaimed.
Brighton used his telekinesis to catch the attacker and Hamilton from the sky. The bodies were smoking. When the bodies landed, the attacker's body and Hamilton's body burned and were unrecognizable. All of us stopped breathing for a second.
"The team captain is dead," Brighton announced.
