The Majarlican Demigod
Chapter 31: Breaking Shield Match
"Listen!" Kori announces, "We will have our next activity, which will remain in pairs. Our next activity is called Breaking Shield. The rule is to save your partner from the opponent's shield. For example, Hans and Talia versus Brighton and Zera. Let's say Zera captured Hans and put him in a whirlpool—Talia must be able to break through that whirlpool and save Hans. The first pair to complete it will proceed to the next level until we have a winner. Give us a good battle scene!"
It's like the maestros want to see a theatre act here. I hope these maestros are ready to take responsibility if everyone goes all-out with their skills. They picked up the first pair, Prince Roux and Xanthal, versus Terrence Indenties and Phoenix Salazaria. It's Natural Skilled versus Mind Masters—Roux and Phoenix were to be saved from the shield. Terrence wrapped up the second prince in a big ball of steel. While Terrence was just hanging up in the air in a transparent ball, although from his expression, it seems like he is under hypnosis by Xanthal.
The battle began on their marks, then Xanthal aimed to get to the ball, but Terrence stopped her. Terrence threw Xanthal up in the air, but she was able to land unharmed. As the action continues, Xanthal and Prince Roux will be tough opponents in this activity. This will not be in my favour for someone like me who can only copy and nullify skills.
While others looked exhausted after their fights, I was standing nervous after being called. Randall and I decided that I would be the one to be saved. Our opponent is Andreius Islas and Juliano Foster. Juliano is also Timotheus's partner, but since Andreius doesn't have a partner, Juliano will be the one to be saved.
Andreius is one of the minor dodgeball players and an elemental skilled. He can give life to any living creature for as long as it is rooted in the ground or buried. This kid can basically bring an army of brainless dead people and animals back to life again. This will be interesting since Randall is also elemental.
The game began, and Andreius commanded the bamboo tree to tie me up. Now I'm covered by bamboo. Amazingly, the bamboo tree feels like it has its own life to tie me up. Meanwhile, Randall locked up Juliano inside a giant boulder. Juliano has 10-thousand-fold physical strength compared to the average physical strength of a normal Majarlican, so it will be fascinating to see how he will try to help Andreius get out of the boulder. I can absorb this power in this bamboo tree, which wouldn't be cheating. But then, I'd copy all the skills I can in case I have to be the one to put a shield.
Randall and Andreius' fight goes foggy due to the soil rustling up in the air. I'm impressed with the kid going all out and Randall holding back a bit so that it would look fair. I could absorb the power, but I won't copy this skill.
I closed my eyes to concentrate. Based on our activity yesterday, if we focus on unleashing our powers, we can make the most out of it, just like Talia could take all the heat around us. Turning off the sun, like turning off the lamp, is an incredible skill power. I tried to clear my mind and felt Andreius' flowing energy through this bamboo tree. It's slowly running inside me.
Slowly…
"ALTHEA!"
Randall shouted my name. I looked down to see him. He signalled me to unleash myself from the tree since Andreius could already reach Juliano. The bamboo tree unravelled me and put me down to the ground soundly. We have won this match.
The first round was done. We advance to the next round and fight with another pair. So far, Brighton and Zera is the leading group. Being a celestial guardian, Brighton has the highest power of Mind Skill—he can command anything and anyone with his mind control. The second round began with Brighton and Zera versus Talia and Hans. Saphrias decides who will be the one to be saved. At this time, she chose Brighton and Hans as the captives.
Elemental commander versus elemental commander: Hans was held up in the whirlpool while Brighton was locked up in a fireball. Lucky for Brighton, he can levitate inside the burning ball because Hans can't even stay still. This second round is still a piece of cake for the leading pair. Brighton could get out from the shield even without the help of Zera.
It's the crown prince versus the second prince. Though Roux can disappear repeatedly, Heavenly has her way of breaking through the shield. She's less strong than Xanthal, but Rupert has overwhelmed Roux's strength, so they still win the match. As per our match, we have to fight against Winslett and Evan. The elemental commanders will be the ones to save their teammates. This might be my lucky day. We won our matches, and I had time to think through how I was supposed to lock up the opponent.
Brighton and Zera fought the last pair, Hasmin and Raphaelli—Brighton's younger brother to keep their rank. Since no one can beat the mighty team of Salazaria-Foster, Randall and I have to face Heavenly and Rupert.
"The captives will be Randall Pandora and Heavenly Admeirre," Saphrias announced.
That means I'm fighting with the crowned prince!
Sure, I was prepared mentally earlier, but do I know how strong Rupert is? No, I don't. I'm more nervous than I thought I was. The prince began capturing Randall. It must have been hard for him to devise a shield, so he attacked Randall and covered the hands and feet to ensure he wouldn't do an earth command. The shapeshifting prince called on crows and lifted Randall up in the air.
Nature is the prince's friend.
Now, it's my time to lock up Heavenly. I concentrated and ran towards Heavenly. I opened the quantum pace I saw when I absorbed Hasmin's skill.
The place is dark, although there are tiny lights like stars at night. Heavenly was utterly surprised.
"Don't try to move from where we are," I held her hand, "You might get lost. I'll make sure to get you out of here."
Heavenly smiled at me, "This is just an activity. Of course, you would."
After hearing those words, I return to the battlefield, and there's only Rupert and me. He grew his wings, and so did I. The people were surprised that I already have wings—at least for those who didn't see it yesterday.
"You're quite powerful. I'm amazed," Rupert said. It might be part of his tactic to fluster me.
"I'm sorry, Your Highness, but I won't go easy on you today!" I declare.
"In that case, I won't hold back either!" the prince attacked by pinning me down to the ground while trying to strangle me.
Rupert is wringing my neck, and I think he forgot that I will only absorb the power he is giving off.
"Where's Lady Heavenly?" Rupert loudly asked. It makes me feel like a villain who locked the princess in a cursed castle.
It pisses me off, so I attacked him by reversing his strength to pin me down. The reaction is like he was electrified or something. Now, I can command the bamboo to tie the prince up. The bamboo tree was obedient and hugged Rupert tightly, so I flew to where Randall was. I lay my hands on the crow, and it let go of my partner.
I untied Randall in mid-air, and we safely descended to the ground. We were declared winners of this match. I returned to the quantum pace to get Heavenly back and untied Rupert. That was quite tiring, so we were allowed to take a break before the final round.
Randall is giving me a high five, so I gave in: "Nice move! We could've been number one if Maestra Saphrias had let you play the savior from the beginning."
"It's better this way. If I were the one to play saviour, I wouldn't be able to think I could travel through quantum pace and lock up your cousin."
Randall sat beside me and laid on the grass. Then, Talia, Hans, and Rupert gathered around us, too.
"You really have a good skill, Ally. When did you learn that?" Hans asked.
"I don't know… maybe since the fight with the spirit of the bottle," I responded.
"You could be the new military general," Hans suggests.
"Ally is the next duchess of the whole West," Talia argued, "She's in command already."
Hans chuckled, "Oh, that's right! I forgot. Then why not a bigger land like the whole Kingdom of Majarlika? I bet any other person has the same skill as Ally. Right, Rupert?"
My eyes met Rupert's.
"I'm not interested." I said, “West is already a handful. Right, Randall?"
Randall looked at everyone, trying to read between the lines, then smiled, "Yeah, West isn't small after all."
Playing safe—but I liked Randall's response.
Vice Chief whistles to get everyone's attention, and everyone goes back to their place. This is the main match now.
