The Majarlican Demigod
Chapter 37: Attack in the East
Unlike the other days, I woke up from the knock on the door. I was still dizzy when I got up and almost fell on my face when I got to the door.
"Good morning, Lady Althea. There's an urgent message for you. You need to respond by going downstairs." The dorm keeper handed over a scroll to my hand.
An urgent message and responding by going downstairs? This letter has the seal of Dytika, which is… It's from my father?! I opened the damned letter.
"Get dressed as you see this letter. We have an important meeting with special people of the West. They want to see you today. I have asked the school director to excuse your absence from today's class. I'll be waiting in front of your school. Get here quickly." That's what Father said in his letter.
All people who want to meet the heiress are always addressed as special guests or special people, but they are all the same. Nothing special about them. No matter who it is, a lady should still dress appropriately on all occasions, so I guess I will be putting on my best dress. After my morning routine and tidying myself up, my reflection in the mirror says I'm all set.
I went straight to the front gate to meet my father, who had brought the official carriage of the West. This meeting was rather crucial than I ought it to be.
"That's a nice dress you put on today, Althea," my father greeted as our carriage went on.
"Good morning, Father. May I know what the meeting is about?" I asked.
"As I said in the letter, it's an important one. The future of West depends on it," Father said, "Your grandfather's health is just getting worse, Ally, and he asked me to hurry up and settle everything in his position. He specifically asked for me to pick the next duke, and your grandfather approved of it, as did your betrothed's family."
So this is what Zephyra blabbered to us the last time. My opinion is not necessary on this subject.
We arrived at the restaurant with few people dining since it was only 7 a.m. We reached the table where an old man and a younger woman were seated. The two of them were accompanied by their security personnel. It's hard to tell, but I knew that I'd met them before.
The man and the woman bowed with a greeting, "Good day, Wests,"
Father and I did the same thing, and we took our seats. Breakfast was served immediately, and then the agenda began.
"Thank you for having us," Father said to them. I brought the lady so she can evaluate the proposal with her own intelligence."
The father is lying. His mom is not around, and his father can barely make it. The truth is I'm the only one he can bring here.
"I heard how the lady is doing magnificently in her studies," the old man said, "Is the news correct, Lady Althea?"
I smiled and nodded once, "It is correct."
"The lady is very well-raised, Lord Socrathetius. A lovely young woman," the woman said.
"Thank you," is my response.
"We should start with the agreement," Father suggests.
"Our condition will be few," The old man started, "We just want you to treat my grandson as a real member of your family and just take care of him. Although my young man is independent and dependable. In return, we bow before the heavens to remain loyal to your family. We do our best to protect the West and the entire state with my power as the second in command of the military defense of the West. As our gift, we will give one of the islands we own in Zenovi."
They are giving me an island in return for taking their son in the position of being the duke. It's funny how great my stand as an heiress is. I didn't even do anything but exist to get an island.
"It sounds noble, isn't it, Lady Althea?" Father is asking me to respond.
I'm trying not to smile, as they may think that I'm too materialistic. Well, not much, but I mean, what would you offer to a demigod who can conquer the entire Kingdom? There's nothing.
"I think it is, Father," I responded, "But, will it be right if we won't at least meet right now?" I asked as I put my hands together.
"Your hand is gleaming, Thea," father whispered.
My hand is indeed gleaming!
"Get out of there! We have an emergency here. Saphrias has sent a signal to other members via mind-controlling, and you need to come back here in this instance!" That's Brighton.
"I'm in the middle of meeting my future in-laws, you dimwit guardian! I'll be in great shame if I ditch this!"
"I'll take care of it later. Just do as I say! The East is under attack. We need to save the people there," he sounds panicking. This means it's going to get messy, just like the last time under the palace's bridge. I don't have much time.
"Please excuse me. I need to go to the ladies' room for a moment," then I dashed to the restroom so I could teleport back to school.
When I came back, I saw Saphrias giving directions.
"Our club has only one lanzaderas that can take us to East; not everyone will fit. For all youngsters who can fly, you can follow the Banderas instead. Are we clear?"
Without any questions asked, I grew my wings and followed after them. Everyone must still be under hypnotism, but how will they be able to remember how they fought? And besides, why does a mere club fight when we have military forces? It's not logical to send young people to the battlefield when there are capable older guys.
"The military they sent to East were all taken down, Althea. If they send more men to the East, no one will be left for other states. That's why they called TNGY," Brighton said.
"But TNGY is just a school club, isn't it?" I clarified.
"It wasn't. It's a special defense force of the Kingdom Majarlika formed by the first king. After the war, TNGY died down and became unheard. TNGY Club won't get sacred object if it's just another school organization," he responded.
They are throwing us into the battlefield! I'm not yet ready for this kind of thing. East is overseas, and that's 3 hours long from Centralia. It only means that we're going to fly for that long.
We're just by the sea but can see the smoke already. Saphrias demanded us to go faster, and so we did. Luckily, when we reached the city, the fire was not set to any house but to the trees alone. The elemental commanders immediately ceased the wildfire, and for the rest, we went to the city to ensure there were no other casualties.
"We believe that the attackers cannot be seen, actually. We've been roving the place, but there's none we have detected," said the patrolling security personnel.
It's also the same answer we get from other people we ask.
No other place was attacked besides the forest. We need to conduct further investigation than just asking around. Obviously, people didn't see the attacker for two reasons: first, the attacker has a supersonic speed like Hans or invisibility powers like Prince Roux. In the worst-case scenario, it must be Artes.
We stayed by the attacked forest. Ninna, given the string, set a shield for us.
"We are staying here to gather more information," Saphrias announced, "I already sent the message to your parents. We will all be staying here. We need to split ourselves into 2 groups. By six in the evening, and we still don't have any leads, the first group will be taking their rest. The second group will take their rest at 12. We need to capture the culprit, and the deadline is tomorrow."
"That's long enough, maestra," Brighton said.
"I think so too. We should keep moving to find the lead," Rupert amends.
"We can start by getting a trace," Randall suggests, "I can do it by earth commanding."
Randall began the tracing by touching the ground. Everyone could not help but look at how he was communicating with the rocks. After three minutes of concentration, he finally opened his eyes.
"The footsteps were lightweight according to the rocks. It belongs to a child." Randall said.
"Why would a child do that?" Zera asked, "That's unforgivable if older people use a child for their own gain!"
"I agree with Zera. I think the people who did this are some sort of mafias!" Talia said.
"Mafia?" We asked in chorus.
"Ah, the mafia isn't a word here..." Talia scratched her head, "Mafia are the people who do dirty work to get the fortune. One example is they kidnap children and sell organs. Or thieving money from smuggled goods. Some fictional stories describe them as horrible people."
"Law deviants, that's what we call the mafias here, Talia," Brighton said.
"That's too long..." Talia said, "But, anyway, we need to capture the bad guys."
"Let's split into two teams now," Saphrias said.
The first group will go around the area and check the neighborhood, while the second group will rest and then check the next neighborhood.
Saphrias divided us into two groups. She took Hamilton, Ninna, Zera, Winslett, Evan, Raphaelli, Hasmin, Heavenly, Rupert, Krista, Tibertius, Jasperton, and Lauren. The rest is with Brighton, including me; we are the second group. The second group will follow the first group and be allowed to do whatever we want for as long as we stick to each other.
Talia and I went inside a cafe to get our teammates a drink. As the staff worked on our drinks, we took a seat near the window.
"You're pretty dressed up today, and you're not in the class. Something came up?" Talia asked.
"Father asked me to meet him with my future in-laws," I responded.
The news utterly surprised her, "Are your in-laws nice?"
"They are. They are giving me an island as a gift," I told her. But shouldn't you be asking how my fiancé looks?"
Talia scratched her chin, "Well, that's—"
"Miss Talia, drink for fifteen!" The staff announced.
Talia took the drinks to the counter, and we left. We distributed the drinks to our teammates and sat under the trees. So, this is overseas. It's busier than Centralia. It would be dangerous if the attacker pursued this city since many people live there. Moreover, most of the mutants live here. There were humans with no supernatural powers here, so we needed to protect them.
