The Majarlican Demigod
Chapter 17: The Enchanted Perfume
It’s our second day of rest and today is the day that Hans promised us that he will show us around Centralis, but it looks like that planned change. Talia and I found Hans with Lauren Kohl who is one of our juniors.
We walked to them and as we reach them to say our greeting, Talia and I noticed that Hans does not react the way he usually does. Instead, he is just smiling like crazy.
"Good morning, lovebirds!" Talia greeted, "Why don't you guys show us around the city? As Hans promised on the first day?"
"I'm sorry, girls, but--" Lauren said, "We're on a date, so, if you can please excuse us?" she smirked at us.
Hans just found his match in hell with Lauren. We sat in the entryway of the boys' dormitory and looked at each other for a moment, looking hopeless.
"Ugh! Hans is so annoying, especially his girlfriend!" Talia reacted.
"Who needs that sonic monkey!" I whispered to her, “I guess we have to figure out the city by ourselves.”
"Ally, Talia?" Rupert asked, “You looked so prepared today."
Rupert walked to us.
I faced him and stood up, "Hans can't show us around the city today like he promised.
"Because of that girl!" Talia pointed at them.
Silence.
Talia looked at me with such puppy eyes. She wants me to ask Rupert— the Prince, son of the Great Emperor. I smiled at Rupert, and he noticed what I was doing.
"Ah!" he looked flushing and looked away while laughing, "Ally, you're already pretty. You don't have to do that."
"Really?" I said, "Since I'm pretty, as you said, can you show us around?" I asked.
Rupert looked closer at me and whispered, "Are you asking the son of Kingdom Majarlika's emperor out on a date, Lady Althea?"
The crown prince seems serious but sounds messing around at the same time.
"If that's what you want to call it, Your Highness," I bowed on my dress and looked at him.
"Spare me two minutes, ladies. I'll just prepare myself." he runs back to his room.
“What happened?" Talia stood up and dusted off the back of her skirt.
"The prince will show us around," I said.
"Really!" Talia jumped in excitement.
"Zera, the perfume isn't working!"—
We hear another conversation, and it's coming from the library. We draw closer to it.
Zera: Of course it will not work to a guy who is already in love and to an immortal. Look at Lauren. At first, she tried it on Hamilton Les Voir, but he didn't fall for it, so she moved on and used it to her second choice: Hans Salazaria.
Another girl: Fine. I'm giving it another shot. If this does not work, you need to give me my money back.
Zera: I assure you that it's gonna work. Many girls tried to use it for the two Princes here, but it didn't work, especially Prince Rupert.
Another girl: That must be because of Lady Althea. Obviously, he likes her.
Zera: That girl... (seemed to be irritated) She doesn't need a higher position. She's the Lady of the West, so she's insanely rich. And she's not that pretty for the prince to like him.
Talia looked pissed off and wanted to meddle inside, so I tried to stop her and pulled her backward.
Rupert called us, "Hey!" I turned around to see how dashing he was, "Let's go!" he put on a hat.
We walk to the plaza, which is pretty close. It's also a relatively easy road to take on because of the fantastic stores along the way. The prince wears the hat so that no one can notice him. It's a bustling city as many families are out here today. It makes me miss my family back in our district.
We stopped by a restaurant for breakfast. The food is nice in here, just like in school.
"By the way, Rupert, have you noticed Zera lately?" Talia asked.
"Zera Foster from our class? Yes. She has been nicer to me, especially yesterday," Rupert responded.
"I heard that she is using an enchanted perfume to lure the man they like, and she is selling to other girls too!" Talia whispered.
Rupert looked surprised, "That's witchcraft which Kingdom Majarlika forbids. Did she use it on me?"
"We do not have proof, but looks like she did," Talia replied. "They said that it wouldn't work on immortals."
"I may have wings and can transform into different wild animals but, I'm not an immortal," he replied.
It stabbed me right in the ear.
Rupert confirmed it by himself--he's not my celestial guardian.
"I heard that if the man is already in love, the enchanted perfume will not work," Talia said, smiling. "Since we're friends, Your Highness. Can you tell us the name of the fortunate girl that immuned you from the enchanted perfume?"
"Ninna Adorre or Heavenly Admeirre." I guessed.
Rupert giggled, "Nope. I mean, all the princesses and other royalties look like them. I like someone who looks like a Majarlican with fascinating identity."
On our way back to the dormitory, I noticed that Maestro Augustus had come out from the campus gate with Ellana Echavaria. Maestro might be tutoring her as part of the Youngsters’ club. He is different from the type that frequently interacts with a student, especially with female students.
On the following day, Episteme time with Maestro Augustus. Everyone can tell that he is a bit lively today and is in a good mood.
Augustus: And that is how a formless demigod possessed the man. Now, the formless demigod cannot fully control the body because the person's soul is still in his physical body, which means that the person has given full consent to the formless deity.
Imman: Maestro, What if he was blackmailed or extorted or his frontal lobe suspended like how a mind-master does?
Augustus: A Majarlican body can resist a spirit from entering it. It's like you poured water into a jug. If you pour water into a pitcher, will the pitcher turn into water?
Imman: No.
Augustus: Exactly! The jug did not become the water just because it was there. The same goes with Artes possessing you or anyone else. Did everyone understand that?
Us: Yes, Maestro.
The wind blew so hard inside the room that Maestro's hard-covered book flipped pages, and then an envelope fell in front of Winslett. Evan took the envelope and was about to give it to Maestro.
"Airavâhce Anallé?" Evan reads the envelope and then looks at Maestro. "Looks like Maestro already has a special someone!" he handed back the envelope.
Maestro takes it, "Sit down, Evan," he placed it back between the pages of his book. It must be something like a love letter.
It's our short break, and I decided to go to the library for a moment, and Talia tags along. Only a few people go here on a short holiday, so the lights are primarily off since sunlight will suffice the room to be lit for reading.
I was about to go to the History book section when I noticed giggles behind the rack. Not exactly being a gossiper, but I turn my feet to the Arithmetic book section to see who those people are. Since I can't view them higher, I bend a little and check if they are sitting on the floor.
"What are you doing?" Talia whispered.
I was surprised my feet moved, and the shoe squeezed on the marble tile really loud. The giggles stopped, so I sat on the floor and got a book to pretend that I was reading.
Seconds after that, I saw Maestro Augustus from my peripheral vision. He just passed by. I didn’t move from where I was and waited for the girl to come out. Patience runs thin as we only have 5 minutes to go back to our classroom.
A girl then came out. It's Ellana! Another bomb explodes in my brain. This is not going to be good at so many levels. Talia seems to have the same thought as me.
I stand up after placing the book back on the rack. "The perfume!" I replied.
"She used it for--?"
Deadpan silence.
Talia dragged me back to our homeroom. We waited for lunch and we managed to get Lauren to accompany us to where Zera is. Then, we found Zera’s table who has 5 other girls with her, including Idina Holster.
"Lady Althea, my insanely rich best friend, is here to purchase a perfume," Talia announced.
Zera signaled us to quiet with big smile on her face, "The perfume works when you do these instructions written on this paper." she holds out a small brown paper. "Remember that you have to focus when you do these instructions, and you can only use the perfume according to its purpose." she has 3 sampler bottles on the table.
There's a yellow, red and blue bottle.
"The yellow is if for the person to feel the same way about you. If you feel mad about the person, you will receive the same emotion. The blue ones are for the other person to feel the other way around on you. If the person likes you then use this that person will hate you." Zera pointed to the next one. "And our best seller is this. The red vial. The person you think of will be madly in love with you. He or she will do anything you say. The danger of using it, if you run out of the perfume, he will slowly feel nothing about you, and this perfume will not work to a person who has pure love for someone else."
The girls around me looked into each other.
"Will we be refunded if this won't work?" Talia asked.
"No need for a refund, my dear. It will work." Zera said confidently.
The girls started putting the gold coins on the red vial. We all agreed that our purchase would be delivered after dinner, which would be a secret to the boys.
In my eagerness to help, I decided to play along with Talia's game. In another time-lapse, we received the item at night after dinner. We decided to read the instructions first before doing it.
The instruction:
1. Face the mirror and with your best look.
2. Spray the perfume in the mirror until you can't see your reflection clearly. Stay in front of the mirror until it dries.
3. Then, get a piece of paper, write your prospect's full name, and put that piece of paper inside the perfume bottle. Remember to think of the person. If you're thinking of something else–it will not work.
4. Let the paper soak in the perfume and remove it after 10 seconds. Burn the piece of the paper as you say the name of the person.
5. Eat the ashes. Wait for 1 hour, and your prospect is all yours.
It's time for Talia and me to decide who will do the ritual. She tossed a silver coin in the air to stepped on it as it fell on the ground. We looked at each other, obviously nervous about what the result would be.
As she put her feet away, the symbol of Majarlika appeared, which means I have to do that thing.
"You are a nullifier, Ally. It won't take effect on you." Talia attempts to ease my mind.
Without further ado, I fix myself in her room. I tried to look as pretty as my face could be. I put on some products that could illuminate the good points on my face. She picked the most enticing dress that I had in my closet.
