The Majarlican Demigod Chapter 8: Spies in the Library "Why are you here?" the voice of a guy whispered to me — I almost screamed! I faced him. "Prince Rupert?" I asked. "Shhh," he tried to cover my mouth and looked out, "Kadeen is here," he said. I turn around and look for myself. Kadeen and Ivy were here. "Where's the scanning device?" Maestro asked. The volume isn't really that ample for me to hear it clearly. "Oh! We forgot about that. We went to the stall to get something to drink." Ivy replied. "Let me get that scanner. Where did you guys put it?" Chief Florentius asked. "It's in the service carriage. It was parked in front of the campus. Here's the key." Kadeen gave the keys to Chief Florentius. "Thanks." The Vice then took the keys and went outside. Ivy and Kadeen are checking through the papers. "Hey, I'm almost done with those papers, so be careful. You might rumble that." Maestro Augustus said. Ivy hands off the papers. "Sorry." "Um, Augustus, may I ask you to get the blue box from the car. It's kinda big. Can you go while Florentius is still there?" Kadeen requested. "Fine." Maestro Augustus responded. Both Kadeen and Ivy waited for Maestro to get outside. "There were too many students who signed up. Chalcedony will get another recognition for this for sure." Ivy said, touching the papers on the desk. "I know, right," Kadeen said. "I'm so pissed with her and her sisters. Let's dispose of these papers." "Are you serious?" Ivy laughed. "Florentius and Augustus will easily notice that." "I'll tell them that we've done half of it and already returned the papers back to the office," Kadeen replied. "Let's just take a quarter of these papers and place it somewhere here." "And do you think those guys will believe us?" Ivy asked. Kadeen answered with complete confidence, "Of course. Those maestros will believe us." She took some papers, put them in a box, and placed them near the librarian's station. "Are you about this, Kadeen? The youngsters chief will be in so much trouble if you insist on doing this." Ivy asked. "Silence, Ivy. We're doing it for our department. These youngsters are always getting in our way. It's time to take them out of the game." Kadeen responded. "I don't know." Ivy shook her head. "Just be quiet," Kadeen said, then she sat and started working on papers. I knew that this would happen. This happened before, and I'm not letting Kadeen do it again. This might save her from taking Artes' offer in the future. "Why are you here, Althea?" Rupert whispered. I faced him again. "Because of them," I replied in a whisper, "I'm saving them from Artes." "Artes?" he asked. "You mean the demigod?" "Yes. That one. I already knew the future. That's part of my skills, and you, I know yours." I said. The prince replied, "You sure do." "I know that it's hard to believe, but I've been in the future," I reassured him. Although, I'm not sure if he is my guardian, unlike earlier when he saved me. "Let me believe in that. I trust you for now," the prince responded. "What's your plan?" He asked. "We will wait for the guys to be back and will tell them about the papers," I replied. "Sound good to me. I'll go with you." He replied. We waited for them to be back and they arrived after ten minutes. "Here's the scanner." Chief Florentius put the scanner on the top of the table. "There's no blue box in the service car. The only blue there is the jug of water Maestro Florence left, and the only box there is the box of this scanner." Maestro Augustus said possibly. "Oh?" Kadeen said. "Where did I put it then? Oh my, there were important things there." – what an actress! Augustus didn't fell for it and took his seat, "Are these all the papers? I feel like they become lesser than the first time we have it." "Really?" Kadeen said, "No. They're completely the same, Augustus. It must be too many sun rays that affect your eyesight. Do you want to take a little break first?" "No. We stop when we're done, not when we're tired." Maestro replied, getting back to his work. I carefully walked to get on the back of the last shelf. Then when I got there, I purposely tried making a noticeable noise of taking the books in and out while Rupert transformed into a tiny squirrel and got to the door for more drama. "Is there anyone with us?" Ivy asked. "I'll check." I heard Chief responded. I go to the aisle so he can see me. "Hey, kid!" he called me. I acted like I was surprised. "The vice chief? Um... Hi. I'm sorry. I actually fell asleep in the corner while reading a book." "Oh..." Vice is not buying it. I tried to peak on his side, "Is that Maestro Augustus?" He looked over his shoulder, "Yes, and you're actually not allowed here. The library's closed because we need this space." "Oh. I'm very sorry. I'll go now then." Vice Chief walked me towards the exit. "Aren't you Chalcedony's cousin?" Ivy stopped us. "Yes, madame. I am." I responded. "Why are you here? Aren't you having your little get-together just a while ago?" Ivy said. "Um, that was one and a half hours ago. I already say my goodbye to my people." I responded. "That's odd, little miss," Kadeen said.  It's time for the acting part. I raised my chin, "It's Lady Althea of the West's first district, Miss Kadeen. The next duchess of West." I tried to sound cruel as I could. Kadeen looked at me with a raised brow. I have to recite a Majarlican code. "I didn't mean to tell you that but, according to the law written in the first republic of Kingdom Majarlika, by all means, the Chief, Ministers or anyone with a position shall impose a good example to the young ones, commoners, and all that is in Kingdom Majarlika not limited to properly addressing the royal blood in their title. This includes you, Councilor Kadeen. If you know that I am royal blood, you should not address me of anything not unless I allowed you to." I love the silence with little humidity and pinch of awfulness in the room. "I do apologize, Lady Althea. Councilor Kadeen had a long day already." Ivy said. But I want to piss off Kadeen, so I'm not looking away. "Please pardon my language, Lady Althea. I was not careful about it." Kadeen finally said. I am dying inside to burst out laughing, but I'm holding it in. I tapped my feet three times to signal Rupert to get inside, "I hope it's going to be the last time you will try to intimidate someone just because they're younger than you," I said to add drama. "Thank you, Vice Chief, for accommodating me." "My pleasure, Lady Althea," he replied. "You can call me Ally, Chief. You're Chalcedony's friend so, I'm cool with Ally." "Great. You're welcome then, Ally," he said. I walked a little outside. Then Rupert came in. "Oh! There it is!" Rupert spoke. "Prince Rupert!" the four of them greeted. "My box, I totally forgot about this." peeking from the side, he was able to get the box where the forms were. "Your majesty..." Kadeen is trying to stop Rupert. "This is mine, okay?" he insisted. "I forgot this earlier." "Are you sure about that, Your Highness?" Maestro asked. "Will it be so kind of you to let us check this box first?" "Um, yes, Maestro. Please check. I might be mistaken." The checking began. "Your royal highness, these are the sign-up forms," Maestro said, and he was obviously surprised. "Excuse me, your highness." he dragged Kadeen towards the door. "What are these papers doing in that box?" He whispered. "I'm done with it already, so I put it there," Kadeen said. I'm hiding behind a bush, and I really can't see their reactions. "We apologize, your highness but, you cannot bring these papers," Maestro said. "Oh. Is that so?" Rupert said. "Well, I'm okay with it since I have mistaken your things for mine. I'll just ask Prince Roux which library he left my things. Thank you." then he went out. "Are you guys done?"... that's Chalcedony! She teleported. "We're halfway through, Chief," Maestro responded. "Chief, can I speak with you for a while outside?" Vice chief said. "Yes. Of course." Chalcedony answered. They stand beside my bush. I have to be very still. "Um, Councilor Kadeen tried to dispose approximately of one-fourth of the sign-up papers," Vice Chief whispered. "What?!" Chalcedony was mad but still in a low voice. "How did you find out?" "The Prince was here. He tried to take a box he claimed he owned, but Kadeen stopped him, so Augustus checked the box and found out that there were sign-up papers there." the vice chief said. "Let's not let them participate again. Anyone from Kadeen's department." Chalcedony decided. "I'll let the whole council know about it," the Vice replied and went back inside. "I knew she's gonna do it," Chalcedony uttered to herself in a low voice. I'm glad that I could prevent that glitch from happening though, it might change something in the future- this has to be controlled anyways. I was able to get out of the bush later that day. Well, I have had to wait for all of them to be out of the library so I can sneak out. After dinner, I went straight to my room to focus on remembering what would happen next. I grabbed a notebook where I could write whatever I saw in my head. On my study table, I tried to recall by closing my eyes. At first, it's all black, then I see the... Kids. Young children, somewhere outside Centralis with some of my classmates and people younger than us. The Vision isn't too clear... We were giving food and things in small bags and some sack of, I think they rice. Phrias is there with Kori, Maestro Augustus, and vice chief. Chalcedony is nowhere to be found here, and Phrias... She's wearing the Youngsters Chief Badge attached to the collar of her clothing. I opened my eyes and felt like I had run for 5 hours. "Couz!" Grimreaper called me. I almost fall from my seat. "Grimreaper!" He asked, "What are you doing?" "Really? I should be the one asking. What are you doing here?" I responded. He floats around me. "Well, I'm here to remind you that you are not supposed to change everything here in the past because your future might get worse." "What do you mean?" I asked. "Well, just so you know, the people on the list that was taken out will also quit the club because they will sail abroad," he replied. "The glitch you said that will happen is just an elf and wouldn't really affect Chalcedony's 'Perfect' reputation in the lower court." I was perplexed, "You mean, I just put an effort for nothing?" I asked. "Yes. If I were you, I would be picky on the things that I will change." Grimreaper said. "Ok," I finally came to my senses. "I can remember the first project of TNGY that Chalcedony was supposed to lead, but I'm not seeing her in my Vision. What does that suppose to mean?" "Let me put it this way, your past became your future as your future became the past after you return from death. Therefore, we conclude that the glitch you fixed earlier will be part of the future and will serve its new purpose, and that is to let Chalcedony sail away." Grimreaper said. "Oh no... That's not good." He sat on the faux balcony. "I hope you've learned your lesson, girl. You cannot change everything that you think is a glitch. Remember, your goal is to make sure to beat Artes... To give an overview of the population, there's only you and Artes in Kingdom Majarlika who is a demigod, and if he can kill you, no one could ever stop him." "The gods, though." "Do you know what's going on in Olympus Mons?" Grimreaper asked. "They don't even know how he was able to get much power. They're killing each other already." "WHAT?!" He laughed at me. "Nah. I'm exaggerating. You know, the Olympians are doing their best to keep Artes where he should be, but he is growing his powers just like the rest of the gods in there. It is written that only a demigod can kill another demigod-- not a god or a celestial nor a mutant but a demigod. There were other Olympian demigods, but some already gave up their powers and enjoyed being human and almost died already. I don't know why they are obsessed with having a human body. I mean, there's nothing special about it, and it decays like... Eww." he said expressively. "Aren't you demigod? You said that your mom died a witch, so she must be a human." "Yes, I said that. But my father, who is the god of death, does not have power over a spirit demigod. He was not granted the power to hold a demigod's living spirit. If Artes will die inside a flesh, then that's the time we can get a hold of him. I only inherited that power, and I was able to develop the resurrecting stuff when I turn 89 years old." "You're 89!?" "You think I'm that young? I'm 700 years old already. And I'm a demigod, so age is technically just a number. We don't die." he reminded me. "So, I'm not going to stop you from remembering things that happened before you died and writing them down. But let me tell you, for everything that you change, there will be consequences. The only constant here is that Artes will be destroying everything around you and you." He disappeared. I have to drink water. Grimreaper is right. No matter what I do, Artes is still after owning Majarlika and killing everyone here. That's what I have to stop. I get back to my desk and write down everything I am reminded of. First, two siblings will try to get us, and their father is connected to the higher court of Centralis. I need to find that out because my memory about the name of that person is not correct. Second, I can take it easy with Kadeen and Ivy. If my calculations are accurate, there will be no glitch that could harm too many people during the feeding program. In case there is, I will ask for help from others. Third, I should ask Rupert if he is the guardian because I can't put myself at stake. No one, as of this state, can be trusted. All of them can be used by Artes except for the guardian. (To be continued)
