“Hey you girl, stop there!" A girl shouted down the hallway. Several other girls were beside her, and they all have a Stern look on their faces.
But instead of stopping, Layla carried on walking down the school corridor. Harassment had become a daily occurrence for her but it still bothered her just as much as every day and she couldn't help herself but retaliate.
Layla kept on walking as she knew that she would be beaten up by the students. They won't be punished because the teachers really don't care about what happens to them. Yes, they won't care because they are not given the permission to take sides or offer punishments to the students that did bad.
She hated the school and the girls who would always bully her everyday.
Why? is she the only one in the whole school that everyone would always love to bully her.
Well, enough is enough. It's time she fights back. She's been enduring this pain and harassment for too long, hoping that it would all stop as long as she obeys their order but that doesn't seem to be the case, as more students kept on bullying her.
She stopped walking, turned around to look at the girls that were chasing after her. There is a lady in front of them whose name is Ashley, she's the daughter of one of the world leaders, that's why she acts pompous around. She goes around the school and gave the order to every student to greet her every morning before doing anything, but Layla who always came early before Ashley comes, would go into the library to read some books.
And once Ashley gets to the school, she checks the name of those that had arrived before her. Searches for them to see what they are doing. And when she caught Layla reading in a library one day without first greeting her, she punished her by telling her to stay all day in the sun.
soon as they saw that Layla had stopped, they also stop chasing after her. They are about a few metres apart from each other.
Layla looked at the six of them and she raised her middle finger up "I bet you don't even know how many fingers I'm holding up!"
The girls clenched their fists and started running towards Layla.
"You stupid piece of crap! When are you going to learn that you don't belong in this world?" a student shouted.
"Weak bones, I'm going to kill you today!" Another lady said.
But, before they could move further, Ashley stepped forward while the other girls were at her back.
Ashley then placed both of her hands together and a green ball of light started forming. When she was only a few meters away from Layla, Ashley threw her hands forward and the green light shot out from the palm of her hands.
Layla had nowhere to go and the beam of light was too fast for her to dodge. All she could do was grit her teeths and bear the pain. As the light hit Lydia, her body was lifted into the air and sent flying backwards as she crashed at the elevator.
"What's going on?" One of the students nearby said. "Are they fighting on the last day of school?"
A crowd had immediately formed outside as people were interested in what the commotion was about. One of the male students ran over to the damaged part of the glass elevator to check on the student's safety.
Layla injured her back as it hit the glass elevator so hard that blood was gushing out of her mouths and back. The male student moved closer to Layla to see who it was and when Layla's black long hair came into view and the male saw who it was, he immediately backed away and continued his business as if nothing happened.
When the male student had returned to his friends, Layla could see that they were laughing at him. They were all a team involved in playing basketball.
"I can't believe you tried to help her."
"I didn't see who it was." The boy retorted with flushed cheeks.
"I wonder what your girl will think if she happens to see what you did now."
*Come on, Shut up. It was all a mistake." The boy bounced back at his friends.
After that, Layla stood up as she started removing the broken glasses that were stuck into her bodies. It was painful but in order to move around like before, she must endure the pain.
"Damn it. It's so painful..." Layla said as she continue removing the pieces of glass from her body. All other students had left, including the six bullies. Once the deed was done they all pretended to be innocent. Well, it's a good thing they are gone, at least Layla could comfortably remove the glasses stuck to her body.
It was the last day of school for Layla and he was hoping just once someone wouldn't try anything with him. Layla was sick and tired of it and she wasn't the type to ignore it either. She had seen people who had chosen to keep their head down and tolerate the harassment and their treatment was far worse than what she got.
After she had removed the pieces of glass stuck inside her body, Layla picked up her pendant with her bloody hands as she tied it back to her neck. The pendant was the only treasure she received from her dead parents, as she had no siblings or family. The pendant had a circular white object tied to the rope but when Layla picked the pendant up with her bloody hands, it shined a red colour. Actually she didn't notice the pendant, as it was already kept under the top of her uniform.
She managed to rise on her feet, because the holes that the broken glass made to her feet was hindering her from walking well, she had it in mind to have her revenge on ashley, sooner or later.
She didn't bother to stay at school like the rest of the students. As she walked past, he saw people talking to each other. Some were laughing while some had tears thinking it was the last time they would ever see each other again but Layla wasn't a part of any of that and he didn't want to be.
When she finally arrived home, Layla immediately went for a shower. Layla lived in a single bedroom apartment that had just enough space to fit a single bed and desk. She have a radio set that could voice out signals from radio stations and could also play mp3 songs.
She don't listen to much news as it contained things about corruption and bribery among the leaders.
The apartment was provided to her by the government since she had no living relatives and was a female, only seventeen years of age.
She remove her uniform as she wrapped herself up with a long, wooly towel and head inside the bathroom for a shower.
She opened the shower and cool water started pouring on her head. After having a nice time rinsing her body, she went towards her mirror to brush her long pretty black hair. But then she noticed the red glow shining on the pendant. Half of the white object that was tied to the rope of her pendant was red in colour while the rest is white in colour.
She removed the pendant from her neck as she took it to the tap for a cleaning. She thought that maybe it was her blood that stained the white object. But while she was doing this, she heard her phone ringing in the bedroom.
With anticipation to pick her call before the line cuts, she stopped what she was doing as she made her way for the bedroom, but her right palm hit the water tap, causing a slight wound on her hand.
She wasn't able to check it as she was in an hurry to pick her phone.
"Hello Sir." Layla said as she answered her call.
"Is this Layla Bea? From the government house. You have been ordered to wait at the park for a milliary bus that will take you to the ability school, in the next one hour. Pack all your belongings out of the government apartment and wait till the bus arrives. Thank you!" The line cuts.
"Well, it's still about sixty minutes till then, I can't just stay outside in the cold waiting for some military bus. Gosh, I gotta brush my hair." Layla said, heading back for the bathroom.
Layla got back to the tap and when she opened her right palm to clean the pendant, she saw the pendant glowing brightly. The white object is now red in colour and Layla could see her hands bleeding, due to the water tap that got her injured.
The white object which is now a red coloured object, started to glow and suddenly the pendant started to lift itself into the air.
"What the hell is happening!"
The pendant started to shine brightly as it moved around the bathroom uncontrollably. As the pendant moved, it was giving some patterns and symbols that for some reason, Layla think she could really understand the patterns.
When the pendant had finish showing off the symbols and patterns to Layla, it floated towards Layla as if it wants to attach itself back to Layla's neck. At the same time, Layla's vision was starting to fade. Her body felt weak and her eyes slowly shut.
But just before she passed out, there was a message she saw above her face.
Unable to maintain consciousness long enough to hear the final words, Layla passed out.
