Chapter 20The deal Matt arranged to have the car taken by rail to Auckland wasn't too expensive and he was pleased when the hotel where they'd booked to spend two nights, refunded his deposit after they'd heard of the reason for the cancellation.
“Well with your bandage, Matt, and Niana looking as if she's had a fight with a gorilla and then burned to a crisp, they couldn't not believe your story,” Rokmane said when Matt told of the refund.
“And what story did you spin, sweetheart?” Niana asked.
“I said I had a fall while we were tramping and decided to return home early.” He grinned. “I was looking forward to that honeymoon suite, though.”
