Amber’s POV.
I walked right behind him in silence. He didn’t say anything; he just kept walking quietly until we were out in the courtyard. I was right behind him with my head down.
“Why did you lie?” He suddenly spoke up. He had his back to me, and his hands were in his pockets.
“Excuse me?” I looked up at his broad shoulders.
“Back in the storage room, why did you take the fall for your friend?”
“What do you mean, sir? I already explained what happened. They locked me up in this same courtyard last night, and I just wanted to get back at them.”
“Do you have any idea what your punishment would be like?” He sounded really angry, but he still didn’t turn around. “Especially since the council already wants you dead.”
