CHAPTER 7.

As I lay in bed thinking about the s*x I just had with Gabriel, I knew for sure that I had been missing a lot. His every move brought waves of pleasure to my body. He was good in a weird way that appealed to my body. Now, it wasn't just about his size because I had seen bigger, but the manner with which he used it. He was devouring every single part of my inside wired with pleasure sensors that others didn't know how to reach. The deeper he got, the sweeter it felt for me. All through my career as a killer, I always focused on the mission. I never allowed anything to distract me and that was mostly why I quickly rose through the ranks to become the number one finisher in the cartel. There were times I returned from jobs regretting all I had missed and sacrificed just to get the job done. I even often wondered if the reward I got was commensurate with all I had to sacrifice. Most times, it didn't sit well with me but I just had to dismiss the idea and forge ahead. But right now, as I stared at the suspended ceiling in my room and with the way my body felt, I knew for sure that I wasn't going to sacrifice this sweet moment for anything. I was going to enjoy it to the fullest and still carry out the mission. "Good morning Ms. Harvey." Nicholas greeted with his peculiar smile as I walked into the long dining room. The table was set with different dishes and fruits. Both sides were flanked by what I suspected would be the domestic staff of the big house. They were about 30 in number. As I sat at the spot Nicholas had probably reserved for me, I felt strange eyes staring at me from all directions. "Ladies and gentlemen, this is Ms. Katelyn Harvey, Olivia's interim nanny. She will be spending two weeks with us at Coconut Island." Nicholas said sounding like a 90s master of ceremony. The people smiled at me, some muttering greetings. I almost felt an unusual discomfort as I smiled back at them nodding in agreement to whatever they seemed to be muttering. As we ate, I thought about Gabriel. I knew he was somewhere in one of his secure suites watching on his monitor right now. As I raised my head after doing justice to the tasty bacon with sweet potatoes and little portions of assorted veggies I had collected from the countless bowls of food on the table, my eyes met with a pair of unfriendly eyes. She was seated at the north end of the long dining table looking at me with such hateful eyes that made me wonder what I had done. "If you are ready Ms. Harvey, I'd like to take you to Olivia's chambers." Nicholas's voice interrupted my thoughts and worries about why the young lady at the end of the dining table was looking at me with such hate in her eyes. "I'm ready." I replied and followed Nicholas out of the dining room knowing that malicious glances would be shot at me as I retreated. In my experience, people often found a new person coming into their territory as a contender and that feeling most times attracted hatred, especially if the person was more presentable or superior intellectually or by class. This was common among women. A pretty lady who received all the attention in a certain environment would feel threatened by the presence of another pretty or even prettier lady. I understood what was probably the case with the lady in the dining room. "Good morning Ms. Harvey," Olivia said with excitement as she ran forward to embrace me in her chambers. "Morning sweetheart, how are you?" "I'm good Ms. Harvey." "Yes, and you look good too in your beautiful dress." "Thank you Ms. Harvey. Miss Valeria gave it to me on my last birthday." "So beautiful. And who is this wonderful Miss Valeria?" "Miss Valeria is one of the nurses here. She attends to Olivia and her father." Nicholas said. "Oh, I see. It is a beautiful dress. But don't worry, I am going to get you something very nice on your next birthday." I said with a big smile. "Are you going to be here on my next birthday?" "It depends on when your next birthday is gonna be." "In ten months from now." "Wow, that's pretty far if you ask me, but don't worry, I am going to send it across to you even if I'm not here." A pang of guilt sliced through my heart as I quickly realised that my mission here was to make her an orphan. Her mother was dead and I was here to kill her father. The thought made me sick. Olivia was such a lovely little girl that looking at her right now made me wish she was mine. What a cruel thing to do? Why would I make this lovely and innocent little girl an orphan? Now, this wasn't the first time I did a job where my target had children, but there was something different about this one. I was drawn to this little girl. Who wouldn't be? "Why can't you stay here on a permanent basis like most of the workers Ms. Harvey? I will tell my dad to pay you very well if money is the problem." Her articulation marvelled me. "I would love to stay but I'm just a fill in for your real nanny who is on leave because her mother is sick." "I don't want her to come back." "Why?" "Because, I don't like her." "Why don't you like her sweetheart?" I asked, really interested in knowing why. "She doesn't know how to hold interesting conversations. But I like you and I want you to stay." I was amused by her reason but then, you never know with rich kids, so I just smiled and held her hand. "Don't worry dear, I will try and see what I can do, but for now, let's see what we can achieve together today." I said with a broad smile and Olivia smiled back. Now, Olivia's chambers was finer and better than the houses of most rich adults I know. It was a two bedroom flat apartment with a large playground. She had photos of prominent inventors, world leaders, scientists and all on the walls of her living room. She had robotic toys that looked like Marvel's super heroes. As Olivia and Nicholas led me through this exclusive apartment on the third floor of this beautiful mansion, I knew immediately that Gabriel really loved his daughter. There was nothing that brought comfort and joy lacking in this apartment. As we stepped out of the mansion, a double seaters golf cart was waiting. A young man was behind the wheels. Olivia and I quickly hopped in and the young man drove off. We drove through a coconut plantation, lush green bushes and clean running rivers. This place was adorned with the beauty of nature. We soon arrived at a large golf course and proceeded to an amusement park immediately after it. As we arrived at the park, a friendly looking elderly man, all grey, approached. His flannel trousers looked funny. "You are welcome Miss Olivia and you must be Katelyn Harvey?" He said with a theatrical smile displaying a set of brown teeth possibly darkened by years of excessive tobacco consumption. "Yes I am. "Great! You are more beautiful than I was told." "Thanks Mr.?" "Pablo. Not Pablo Escobar." The man laughed." But they call me Uncle Pablo here. I am the park manager. Been here from the very start." "Oh, nice to meet you Uncle Pablo." "Thank you. Olivia is my most revered client on this island and I make it a duty to treat her like a princess that she is anytime she visits. Isn't that true Miss Olivia? "Yes Uncle Pablo." "Her grandfather was my boss for 35 years. Very nice and lively man...bought me my first bottle of whiskey." He said laughing. "Impressive." I responded as I observed him closely and knew instantly that he was tipsy. I was familiar with tipsy and drunk men. Apparently, he was the drinking and entertaining type just like my late father. Their type was constantly tipsy such that there was no difference between when they were tipsy and when they were normal. Being this way and talking freely was their normal. That I guess comes with living a monotonous and boring life for many years with alcohol being the only affordable past time. Olivia and I had some mechanical rides, water rides and games. It was really fun for me cos the last time I visited an amusement park was when I was about six. And I spent most of the time looking around cos my dad couldn't afford the rides in the park. How I felt so bad as I wanted to join the other kids in the rollercoaster but didn't because my dad could not afford it. It's more than 20 years now and I am here living out the fantasies of my childhood. Olivia looked very excited all through our rides and games. Surprisingly, she beat me to all the games. She was a smart kid. "Please come again soon cos we enjoyed your presence." Said Uncle Pablo as Olivia and I mounted the golf cart. "Yes we will." "Bye Uncle Pablo." Olivia said waving at him as the driver began to pull away from the park. We drove through a different route and Olivia entertained me with stories about her school. From her tales, it was an interesting school but filled with arrogant and delinquent rich kids who occupied themselves mostly with ways of outdoing one another. They looked for tiny reasons to trash talk or diss others. Soon we arrived at the rear entrance of the mansion. Olivia and I alighted from the cart and the young man drove off. "Do you know how to play the piano Ms. Harvey?" Olivia asked. "No. Do you?" "Of course I do, but not as good as my dad." "Your dad can play? "Very well, he can sing as well." "Are you serious?" "Of course I am. He used to have a band. He was the lead singer and they have five recorded songs." "Oh my God! That sounds so exciting. Do you have the songs?" "I don't. He only plays it for me. He says he doesn't want people hearing it until it is officially released." "I wish I could listen to it." "Tell him you want to and he will play it for you." "Why do you think he would?" "Because he likes you." "Why do you say so?" "I saw the two of you yesterday." That hit me hard and my mind quickly ran to what Gabriel and I had done at the cinema room the previous day. Is that where she saw us because these smart kids can be mischievous sometimes? "Where did you see us? "At the pool side yesterday. You guys were talking to each other and smiling." "We just had a brief chat." I said after laughing to her observation. "He told me when I asked him that he likes you." "You asked him what?" "I asked him if he liked you and he said yes." I was lost for words for a few seconds before I eventually gathered myself. "Okay. I will find a way to tell him about the songs but for now, it's time for lunch. Where will you have yours? "In my apartment. That's where I eat. Yours should also be served there." "Okay darling. Mine will be served in your apartment. So let's go." As we made to enter the house, Olivia said. "Can I ask you something?" "Yes you can sweetheart." "Okay. Our school resumes next Friday. My class is having an exhibition that day and parents are invited to come talk briefly about themselves. My dad has never attended for me and my classmates make jest of me for that. Would you come for me? "Anything for you sweetheart." "Are you sure?" "Yes I am sure." "I want you to come as my mom." Olivia said with her eyes pleading. I was moved by her request. And it was quite clear that she liked and trusted me a lot to want me to act her mom before her teachers, her classmates and their parents. Having also lost my mother at a very tender and having a father who never really understood the meaning of fatherhood, I knew how it felt. Gabriel was a thousand times a better father than my dad, but the void created by the absence of a mother at a very tender age and the trauma that accompanied it was something no one could ever understand. I remember how I always cried whenever I saw other kids in the company of their loving parents, either going to church or having fun in eateries, ice cream spots or any other social setting. I could relate in every way with her situation and I was willing to do anything for her. Not just because we seemed to have a serious connection, but because being with her made me exceedingly happy and equally unlocked the humanity in me; a part of me I had lost a very long time ago.
