CHAPTER 8

"Deal honey. We have a deal. So are you happy now?" I asked Olivia who had been impatiently waiting for me to say yes to her request. I knew that she would be hurt if I refused, so I accepted. I was here originally with a fake identity so acting her mother was in line with who I was. "Thank you so much Ms. Harvey." Said Olivia as she pushed forward to hug me. "Now we can go and eat right?" "Yes." She responded with a sweet smile and we both hurried into the mansion. As we stepped into the lobby, the hateful lady at the dining room earlier appeared. "Hi Olivia, where have you been?" Asked the lady with a forced smile. "Ms. Harvey and I went to the park." "Oh I see." She said and looked at me with a hint of disdain. "Sweetheart, we need to get upstairs. We've got important things to do." I quickly said looking for a way to spite the hateful lady. The lady sensed it in my and gave a sarcastic smile. "Ms. Harvey, this is Miss Valeria, the one that bought me this dress on my last birthday." "Okay, but don't worry honey, I'm gonna get you something better on your next. Can we go now?" "Bye Miss Valeria." Olivia waved at her as we began to walk away. Miss Valeria's face dropped. "Excuse me, Ms. Harvey right? Can I have a word?" She quickly said. I reluctantly stopped. "Honey, please give me a minute." I said to Olivia and began to walk back towards her. As I approached, she moved to a corner farther away from where Olivia was standing. "I don't know what your play here is but don't get your fantasies too high cos Gabriel is taken." With a smile I responded. "Thanks for the advice Miss. I will take it under advisement." With that I turned smiling as though I had been entertained with a joke. But as I threw the first step towards Olivia, I heard Valeria call me "b***h". I pretended not to have heard it and moved on. Truth is, I liked the trouble that was brewing. I needed the drama. I thought it quite girlie and I wanted to experience it to the fullest having being deprived of such girlish experiences by life. It was frivolous to entertain or consider such issues in my line of work. The only things that mattered were money and power. Now, this special job had provided me with, not just a rare opportunity for an exciting romantic engagement, but for some interesting drama. I only watched it in high school movies where two or more girls fought over some handsome and popular guy. It was intriguing for me and I needed to see it unfold. Also, such drama would help my mission as it would make me look real. It would be an interesting story that the young nanny fell in love with her handsome employer only to discover the he had a mistress amongst other employees. I relished the thought of a fight with this Valeria girl. Olivia was now in bed, sound asleep. The lunch was sumptuous and she had taken a quick shower immediately afterwards. As I went through some of her books, from her academic performances in school, I saw that she was well above average. She had distinctions in most of her academic works and this impressed me. Not only was she beautiful, she was equally brilliant. I had always told myself that when I eventually retired, probably had one or two children, I would train them to reach the zenith of academic attainment. They will be medical doctors, scientists or professors. That was my dream. Gabriel was lucky to have such a gift. The phone soon rang and I picked. "Hi baby, how are you faring with your new nanny?" Gabriel said on the phone. "Sorry, this is Katelyn, Olivia is fast asleep." "Okay Ms. Harvey. Say me hi to her when she wakes up. Bye." He said and hung up. Why did he hang up so fast? As if he was unhappy to hear my voice? This wasn't the Gabriel I spent quality time with yesterday. What is going on? I began to replay the events of the previous day in my head searching for answers for his attitude. I had expected him to want to converse with me given what transpired between us yesterday. What had I done wrong? Well, I just have to wait to find out. Quickly, I stood up, returned Olivia's books to their places and left the apartment. "Hi." Said a young male voice as I walked along the lobby. I looked up and it was the young man that had driven us in the golf cart earlier. "Hi," "So em...I was just getting off the dining room when I saw you, so I felt it was courteous to say hi." From the pauses in his speech and the fact that he couldn't look at my face, it was quite obvious that he was shy. "Never knew you could talk." I said and a smile appeared on his face. "You were quiet like a mouse all through the ride to the park and back." "Three is company they say and my job was to drive you to the park and back, not talk." "So, has that changed? I mean the talk part?" I asked looking at him with keen interest. "I...I...if you are not cool that I spoke to you, please I'm sorry. Let me take my leave at once." Makes to leave. "No, it's okay. I was just joking with you. So what's your name and how long have you been here?" If my mission was to be very successful, I needed every possible information I could lay my hands on and being friendly with those who have been around before me would be helpful. "Justin is my name. And I have been here for six months." "Six months? That's like yesterday. So why here? Don't you feel bored or excluded from civilisation? If you know what I mean. "No, I don't. My life was actually boring before I got here. This place, this place is not boring one bit. Have you been to the beach front?" "No, what's special?" "Everything. I could take you there at your spare time." "I will appreciate that." "So, my place is on the other side of the house, flat seven, room 306. I'm available if you need someone to talk to any time...any time. You can also call my room." "Cool. Nice to meet you again Justine. I just want to head to the backyard for some fresh air. "Okay, Thanks for talking with me. I have to go now. Got something to do in my room." "Alright. Take care." "You too. Bye" "Bye." Justine hurried away from me as I watched. He almost missed a step. He was aware I was staring at his retreating figure and probably lost composure. He was no doubt the shy type. As I appeared in the backyard, I began to think about my mission. Although everything seemed to be working perfectly, I needed to be careful and fast. I knew that Don Patrizio would call me any moment for an update. I needed a way to get to Gabriel's office. And now that he seemed different from the man that wanted my company so badly yesterday. What am I going to do? But why would he suddenly appear withdrawn? Was yesterday a one time s*x? But I admit, he had entrapped me such that I can't wait to have him again. How possible is that going to be with him avoiding me? He hasn't seen me all day and wouldn't even hold a minute conversation with me. "Ms. Harvey." Nicholas's voice almost startled me. He was standing at my back with his smile as I turned. "Mr. Alejandro wants you to get prepared with Olivia in three hours from now. He will be having a dinner party outside the Island." "Okay." "So is there anything you will have me do for you? "None for now Nic, but if something crops up I will let you know. I have to tell Olivia." "Okay Ms. Harvey." With that, he turned and left in a hurry. Olivia was already awake when I got to her apartment. "Your daddy is taking us on a dinner party tonight. What would you like to wear?" "You have to help me choose." Her face lighting up with excitement. "I have several gowns in my wardrobe, let's check them out." Olivia said and took me to her wardrobe. Colourful gowns of all sorts where hanging on shelves while other dresses were neatly folded and placed inside the shelves. I saw a lovely red dress and recommended it for her. "I need to get down to my room for a quick shower. You do the same and I will join you in 30 minutes." I said and quickly left her apartment. "Hi Ms. Harvey, I've got these clothes for you." A chubby lady standing by my door said as I arrived."Mr. Alejandro sent them across for you to choose from." She added. "Okay." I unlocked my door with the key card and collected the dresses. She quietly left and I entered my room. 25 minutes later I was standing in front of the mirror wearing a red beautiful gown. It was the best among the three dresses Gabriel had sent. I never really fancied myself but the lady I saw in the mirror was beautiful. A chopper was already waiting when we stepped out of the house. As we boarded, I waited for Gabriel. I expected to see him but my hopes were dashed when the chopper took off without him. I immediately wanted to ask the pilot about him but was discouraged by the fact that he wore headsets which would require me shouting or touching him to draw his attention. It was less than a twenty minutes flight across the sea and we began to descend. It was a big city on the island. "Welcome to San Juan." A smiling fat man said as we alighted from the chopper. "Please follow me." He continued and began to walk towards a waiting limo. It was a dark Mercedes Benz S Class Custom Limousine. As Olivia and I got close, the fat chauffeur opened the door, and with a slight bow, he beckoned us to enter. We did and he quickly shut the door. The interior of the limo was impressive in a creative way. It had a fully stocked bar, neon lights, two 41-inch Led TV screens, heavily tinted windows, a powerful super stereo system, a full beverage refrigerator, and colourful, luxurious leather seats laid out in a bench-like manner with a sitting capacity of about 12 people. As we were chauffeured in this luxury on wheels, I thought about Gabriel. "We are going to daddy's hotel." Olivia said. "How do you know that?" "Because we spent a weekend here during the last Christmas." "Okay, I see. So who else came with you guys?" "Miss Valeria." "The nurse?" Trying to confirm my suspicions. "Yes." "Your daddy is friends with her?" "Yes, but not in an unprofessional way." "What do you mean by that?" I asked staring at her and wondering if she actually understood what those words meant? If she did, I would marvel at her articulation. "I mean that she came because I was recovering from a chronic flu and she needed to be around to administer drugs to me." "Okay. Does she also treat your daddy?" "Sometimes." Soon the car stopped and I waited for the chauffeur to open the door as I always knew that they seemed to enjoy doing that. In a few seconds, the door flung open and we stepped into the exterior of a dazzling hotel. It had a towering palatial structure with a gigantic and well lit waterfall at the centre of the large compound. A middle aged man in black suites, appeared. "Good evening Ms. Harvey, would you follow me please?" He said and began to move towards the building. I held Olivia's hand and we both followed looking radiant in our red dresses. We passed through an extremely beautiful lobby into an elevator. We exited at the third floor and stepped into a luxurious auditorium filled with people. A band was playing a cool and lovely sound. As we edged forward guided by the special guard, a powerful and controlled male voice with incredible projection filtered into my ears. It was a pop song, my favourite genre and the voice was soulful. Olivia was beaming with joy and pointing forward as we sat, so I followed her eyes to the stage. There he was, dressed all in black, amiably posed in a sensual way. His sleeves were folded and the head of his belt had a gleam. Gabriel was not just an Adonis, he was equally a great singer with so much quality in his voice. Standing there and singing with such a melodious intensity and control, he looked more like a better version of Michael Bolton in his prime. I could feel goosebumps on my skin as his unique voice caressed my ears.
