At 4:00 p.m., Caroline pulled her cell phone from her hip pocket and dialed Camden Bakery, “Hello, may I speak with Ben please?”
“Sure, can you hold on a moment,” replied a female voice.
Approximately one minute passed before he answered, “Hello, this is Ben, may I help you?”
Her stomached ached when she heard his voice. “This is Caroline, would it be possible to get another apple pie and a plain cheesecake before 6:00 p.m. today?”
“Sure, but you don’t sound like yourself, is something wrong?” Ben questioned with a bizarre yelp at the end. “My bad I just choked.”
She didn’t want to respond, “Oh, before I forget, I can’t have dinner with you tomorrow night.”
He cleared his throat, “Are you mad?” He sighed with heavy breathing.
