We sat down to breakfast and once we were done eating, Dad started the conversation.
"So, Maya, have you thought about where you wanted to go once you're fully healed?" he said.
"I uh, hadn't thought about it. With Mexico off I thought about heading the south coast, I don't really know," she replied.
"What would you say to staying here with us?"
"Are you being serious?"
"Very. We have the space, your room was just sitting empty anyways. Our crops are doing well so we have more than enough food and we enjoy your company. I'm very firm on this being your choice though, if you'd rather move on, we'll help you get to somewhere safe. Even if you stayed a few months and wanted to leave, you'd be free. I don't want you to feel like you're obligated in any way."
