Chapter 5

A sudden ringtone sliced through the heated silence of the room. Orion lifted his head from my lips, breathless and visibly irritated by the interruption. His gaze drifted to my phone screen, lighting up with an incoming call; we both knew exactly who was dialing. I'd seen this coming long before the phone rang. Reporters worked faster than anyone in the industry, and the photos from the banquet would be trending nationwide by now. Orion made no move to pull away, his heavy gaze fixed steadily on my face. I answered the call calmly, not a trace of panic in my tone. Before I could utter a single word, Lucas' furious roar exploded through the speaker. "Rebecca! What the hell is trending online? Why are there photos of you kissing Orion? Where are you right now? Tell me, goddamn it!" "In bed," I replied. A stunned silence fell on the other end of the line. "What?" I smiled faintly, my tone lazy and unrushed. "I'm undressing Orion right now. I have to say, his abs feel infinitely better than yours. His whole physique is—" "Rebecca! Cut this bullshit right now!" The crash of shattered glass and terrified female screams echoed loudly through the phone, proof of Lucas' raging breakdown. I twined a finger lazily through Orion's belt loop, teasing and unapologetic. Orion snatched the phone from my hand in one swift motion, his tone cold and authoritative. "This night means something to Rebecca and me. Don't bother us again. And for the record, you call me uncle by family seniority. Start calling her aunt from now on." He tossed the phone aside and pressed his lips back to mine. I laughed uncontrollably against his mouth, every ounce of resentment built over seven long years finally melting away. Orion kissed me harder, a low, amused grumble vibrating against my lips. "You liar."
