The Calico Wolf

Hey all, I’m Lyns, short for Lindsey, I turn 18 tomorrow and will hopefully find my mate. I can’t wait, I am so excited, but extremely nervous at the same time. My friends think it will be either the Beta Brett, Gamma Steve or possibly even Alpha Dominic. Honestly, my only concern is if my mate will accept me. I am good looking with my Auburn hair, bright green eyes and very athletic toned 5 foot 5 inches body, with curves in the right areas. I know there are many others out there better looking then me and I’m okay with that.

My wolf counter part, well she is the problem, she extremely unique, she a calico wolf, mostly white but has black and red starting from her forehead back to her tail. She is actually extremely beautiful, her legs, chest and underbelly are all white, her tail is a glorious swirl of the colors combined with the tip being all white, but the best part is she has long hair. Her name is Karina, she may look odd but she is actually the sweetest most caring and loving wolf I have ever come across, unfortunately, she can be down right vicious and blood thirsty, plus she is the size of our alpha, which is very unusual for a female.

Karina came to me at the age of 10, way earlier then the usual 13. Our wolves come to us before we go through puberty, so we grow together, then we shift by age 16. I shifted at 13, I had the signs, but it was an easy fast shift with little pain, unlike the usual long, painful shift most have, my parents freaked. They called the alpha and the packs Doctor to come, everyone was baffled as we layed on the floor calmly and watched them. The Elders of our Pack were also called, they never heard of a Calico Wolf, but are still researching it.

Flashback

“Alpha, I will do my best not to shift unless its absolutely needed, and I apologize that your Commands don’t work on us, but we will keep up appearances.’ I told Alpha when Karina allowed me to shift back.

“Yes, would like that, I would also like to start your training early, with your parents permission, of course. It will also be done in human form and I will have Gamma Ray work with you, privately and he will be told to be quiet about it.” Alpha Jetson said.

I looked at my parents excitedly as they shook their heads yes. “We do need to keep your wolf hidden, as I fear she may become wanted since she is so unique. I hope you understand this is to protect you, of course” Alpha added as he got up to follow the others out.

“Alpha, will I be allowed to shift and run with my family? Karina wants to know.” I asked finally so Karina would shut up about it.

“Yes, absolutely, I just hope you will invite me along, she is an astonishing wolf, and I would like to see you both grow to be the best you can be” he says back as I let out a sigh of relief. My family and I bowed our heads as he left.

I looked around at my family, they were all speechless and teary eyed as they looked at me. I knew they would become super overprotective of me now. And of course they did, my twin brother the most of all.

End Flashback

“Hurry up Lyns, we are gonna be late on the first day!!’ Jared, my twin brother yells. He is waiting with Jessie, our 16 year old brother, and Carrie, our 14 year old baby sister, at the door as I come down the stairs. We all look the same, but they all have brown eyes like Dad. Our parents already left for their training and then they have border patrol duty.

Jared looks at me, “Your not dolled up to meet your mate today, that’s surprising. Most girls do.”

“Well, I am NOT most girls, I have no desire to doll up when I am more comfortable like this. Besides, my mate should be happy with me just the way I am. What about you finding your mate?”, I say with a big grin as I Climb into our car.

“Not worried about finding her, I will accept her for whoever she is and will wait for her until she appears. As long as he treats you like a princess, is respectful and honest with you!” Jared says while Jessie agrees.

“Are you guys going to like this when its time for me to find my mate? I really hope not” Carrie joins in. We all look at her then to Jared.

“Nope, its going to be a lot worse for you, your our baby sister, plus your going to have all three of us following you around”, we all laugh as Carrie gets a look of pure terror on her face.

Another year at Howling High School, an all werewolf school. Our pack, the Midnight Howlers is about 2 hours away from the closet human school, or settlement for that matter. We are nestled deep in the Appalachian Mountains, and almost never have any issues. It’s school, what can I say, I am not found of sitting in a classroom at all, I would rather be outside. As we pull in i see the twins, Kyle and Kelsie, Kels for short, my best friends since pre-school.

“LYNS” Kels starts yelling and jogging over to us with her Long brown curly hair bouncing around, with Kyle following,

“Well??’ Kyle looks at me hopefully.

‘He is so cute and sweet, but not our mate, break it to him gently please’ Karina says to me. I look at him, “I’m sorry, but its not you, but Karina says your still a sweet and cute”, as i give him a half smile. I know he’s a little disappointed, but still hopeful.

“It’s still good, I was nervous, I didn’t wanna ruin this friendship, Besides we all know its gonna be one of the ranked members anyway. Karina is a high class gal”, he says while smiling, knowing he’ll get a snarky comment from her.

‘I’ll show him “high Class” during training’ Karina growls out, I start laughing at him “Oh boy are you in trouble” I tell him while walking away. I look ahead and see my siblings already at the entrance.

“Did you know that Dominic, Brett, and Steve are coming back. I just heard about it, did Jared say anything?” Kels asks me as she takes my arm walking into school.

“No I didn’t actually, I’m surprised Jared didn’t say anything to me, I know he is close friends with them. I wonder if he even knows.”

“Ladies, I will catch you at lunch, I gotta go” Kyle tells us as he hugs us from behind and runs off for his training course.

“Lyns, are you nervous about finding your mate? I have 2 months yet and I am crazy nervous just thinking about it”

“Not really, I am because of Karina and her uniqueness, but for me not really. I just want them to accept me the way I am. I am on tract to be an Elite Warrior, I Hope they aren’t offended by that. Kels, I honestly think I am more scared then anything else right now”.

Kels looks at me with her brows raised, “Any. Man would be lucky to have you, and most likely Proud. But you wonder why we keep saying your going to be mated to a rank. Let’s get to class.” She says as she rolls her eyes.
