My Queen, My Terror

CHAPTER 4

We went to a restaurant and to their ice cream stand. Zephyr really had a hard time choosing what flavor she wanted.

"How about you choose a flavor for me, Sylv?" she asked after her excitement over the ice cream died down a little.

"How about we get a scoop or two, if not more of every flavor, one at a time?" I said smiling at her

"Sylv, no. If it was on me, I would've agreed. You can't just waste what you work for. I'll choose a flavor"

"What if I insist? Been a while since I spoiled my kid sister" I said and held her hand then turned to the seller

"We'll be on you for a good number of times this evening ma'am. And as I politely ask for four scoops of vanilla ice cream, two to each cone, I'd like to ask that you enjoy our disturbance, that profession makes patronage"

"Oh dear, you and your sister should do have an amazing evening, and I'll await your "next" patronage" she said with a smile and gave us our ice cream.

We found a corner at the back and sat down to enjoy our first batch of ice cream.

"It's been years since I had ice cream that I've forgotten what flavor is my favorite"

"I do have some on my way back from deliveries most times. Sorry I didn't consider you" I said apologetically and with that, she smacked some of her ice cream in my face.

"Don't go soft on me right now. If you consider me in every thing you do, I'll just be pulling you back. So how about we savor this evening without any sad ideas and memories?" she said and raised her cone at me.

"Cheers to a happy evening then" I said and hit mine against hers and bent my face below the table to wipe my face. As I placed my glasses on and raised my head, a blonde lady came over, wearing what I and society can deem indecent.

"Hey hun, don't you think you're too handsome to stoop so low for this limbless being?" she asked and slowly sauntered away. I was confused and simultaneously, Zephyr and I looked at each other. I wanted to go after her but she stopped me. She removed the pin she used to hold her hair packed in place and she removed a short needle from it, after she had wrapped her hand in a paper towel on the table, and threw it at her. It stood in her leg and as she turned to acknowledge the pain and look for who did it, she fell suddenly, which shocked me, not gonna lie.

"Um Zeph, what was that? You're a ninja or something?" I asked quite shakily

"Naah, she'll be fine. She doesn't look like who's had a good sleep in a while,so putting her asleep is a good option" she said while doing her hair and continued; "I'm working on defending myself and some other interesting stuff" she said and signaled to the very tiny drone that recovered the pin for her.

"You might not always be available for me. I just want something for myself that I can work with if....."

"How the f**k are you controlling that thing?" I asked and she removed something silver from here ear

"Can't really explain the deets but you'll get used to it" she said and the drone fixed itself in the watch she was wearing.

"Oh Jesus, how did I not know what you're doing in that room of yours? You smart little devil" I said and touched her nose

"It's something we science peeps have that art nerds don't" she said mockingly and folded her hand on the table

"Before the ambulance arrives, how about we go and get another round of ice cream?" she said and wheeled herself to the ice cream stand while I followed closely behind.

As we were getting strawberry flavor, the health service team arrived and by that time, the lady was no longer numb,but still unable to get up. I turned to look at the people placing her on a stretcher and another crew asking if they saw anything strange to warrant her collapsing. Amongst the people asking questions, was Roxanne, who was thanking the people she was with and walking towards us.

"We meet again, miss" I said and stretched my hand for a handshake

"Yh we do. Those guys said you and the charming Miss in the wheel chair, she had passed you both and not long, she fell. Anything weird you sighted that caused it?" she asked

"No, she just said something rude to my sister here and I don't know if she's battling some disease, she collapsed moments after she walked away from us. Nature took it's cause I guess" I said and handed Zeph her ice cream.

"Oh dear. Well thanks for your input" she said and squatted to Zephyr's level.

"You're amazing. Don't let people get to you" she said while holding your hands

"I didn't let her get to me and I doubt I'll let any other person get to me" she said and smiled, we both knowing what happened behind that innocent smile

"Okay then, she'll be fine though. I'll be leaving now" she said and turned but I stopped her

"Can I get your number?"

She turned again and heaved a sigh before collecting my phone and typing her number in

"Thanks" I said as I took my phone back from her and walking back to where we had our first batch of ice cream.

"She's even a fictional doctor!How would I know?" Zephyr spat out suddenly, like she's been holding the words in for a good number of years.

"Not now, Zeph" I said and poked her ice cream

"Strawberry snow man has a nose.Anyways, I'm good with this for the night" she said and lowered her voice; "Can't wait to hear some juicy story when I get home" she said with deep mockery.

"Zeph please" I said, with laughter threatening my voice

"Can I get your number, pretty?" she said with a flick to her hair.

"No. I seriously didn't look like that when I asked her for that. Come on, that's a gay thing to do" I said and we both started laughing

"Whatever big guy, let's go home. I'm tired already" she said and yawned,which I knew was fake.

"No, you just want to pester me and I'm not falling for that"

"Oohhh, I've always imagined sleeping under the stars" she said and looked out the window

"Silly you, let's get your ass moving" I said and wheeled her outside.
