"Did you talk to Chloe today?" he asked, his chest still beneath my head, so I couldn't see his face. All I could hear was the steady rhythm of his heartbeat in my ears.
"Yes, but it didn't go well. Thankfully, Ian showed up."
"Why did Ian come?" I could sense the wave of jealousy in his tone.
"Aiden was a friend to all of us, so Ian joined the conversation about him."
"You're right. Here I go again with my crazy jealousy," he said, laughing.

"I feel the same about Valerie. Why did she call you that day?" I asked, preferring to ask directly rather than concocting a thousand scenarios in my head.
