Chapter 1

When Elena opened her eyes, the view of the Vales backyard caught her eye. Huh? Hadn't she been stabbed by Celine a few minutes ago? Helena brought her hands to her chest and surprisingly, she felt no pain. She touched everywhere, just to make sure she wasn't hallucinating. Was she dead? Was she in heaven? But if this was heaven, why did it look exactly like the backyard of the Vales mansion? Wait a minute, had she been reborn? Helena was still trying to figure out what exactly was happening to her when she heard the sound of footsteps. “Shhh, someone might hear us,” a cold voice broke the silence in the backyard. “No one is here, stop fidgeting.” Helena recognised that voice immediately. Celine. “Where's the poison I asked for? You know we can't afford to lose this chance to finally get rid of that Jinx.” Jinx? Jinx? Shit! She was very familiar with this conversation. She did not believe one could dream a dream so vivid that she could practically remember every detail, so the only other explanation is that she had been reborn. The heavens had truly heard her and they had given her a second chance to live a more meaningful life. And she wouldn't foolishly make the same mistake she made in her last life. “Don't worry, after tonight, everything that belongs to him will be yours.” “I'm the first born, everything should originally be mine, if not for that Jinx. Since he doesn't know how to give up, I'll just get rid of him myself. Celine, don't mess things up tonight.” Not on her watch. Her first mission tonight was to save Adrian. Only Adrian can get her out of the Vale mansion tonight. If she minded her business like she did in her last life, she would end up in the hands of Celine again. Once she was sure both parties were gone, she ran back inside. Stepping into the rowdy kitchen, the first person she laid her eyes on was Celine, dressed in the same beautiful dress she was wearing in her past life, giving a waiter an instruction. The waiter was holding a tray with a glass of sparkling champagne. Watching the exact scene from her replay in front of her, Helena couldn't help the shivers she felt. Her eyes followed the waiter as he walked out of Kitchen, Helena followed discreetly behind. She followed quietly until he got to the entrance of the hall, before stopping him in his tracks. “Hey, Miss Celine needs you in the kitchen urgently.” Seeing the strange look the waiter gave her, Helena realised he did not believe her. “This belongs to Mr Adrian, doesn't it? She wants me to deliver it to him, so you can attend to her.” Helena explained. “Oh,” the waiter responded but still didn't hand over the tray to her. Shit! No matter what, she had to be the one to deliver the drink to Adrian. “If you don't believe me, let's go back to see Miss Celine together.” Elena acted like she was going back to the kitchen. “Fine, you can give it to him. Don't make a mistake.” “Don't worry, I know what Mr Adrian looks like. I won't make a mistake.” Helena collected the tray. “You can go back to the kitchen.” Helena gave the waiter a final assurance before making her to the hall. Her eyes scanned the hall for Adrian. She remembered when he was sitting in her last life, so she made her way towards that part of the hall. She was nervous. She could feel her feet wobbly as she walked towards Adrian. She had to get him out of here as soon as possible. Once the waiter reports back to Celine, her lie would be found out. This was her only chance. Her eyes caught Adrian. While everyone was mingling and enjoying themselves, Adrian was sitting alone, looking at his phone. Of course, he was considered a Jinx, so no one wanted to associate with him, but Helena considered this a blessing in disguise. How else was she supposed to talk to him if he was surrounded by people. She walked up to him hurriedly. She had a plan, and could only hope it would work out. “Here's your drink sir,” Helena offered. She quickly dropped the tray and picked up the glass to give it to him. He gave her a strange look. Of course, she knew it was rude to pick up the glass for him, but she had no choice, if she wanted her plan to work out. He didn't say anything though and reached out to take the glass from her, but in a split second, Helena spilled the drink on his perfectly ironed and expensive white shirt. Adrian threw her a dirty look, but she didn't care. “I'm so sorry sir,” Elena apologised loudly and made a move to clean his shirt with her hands. But the moment she moved closer to him, she spoke in a hush voice. “You need to get out of here now, Marcus is trying to kill you. The wine is poisoned. If you don't move now, you might not get out of here alive. Trust me.” “What do you think you're doing?” A hand pulled Elena away from Adrian. “Don't touch him with your filthy hands.” It was Marcus Vale. He had an angry look. Of course, she had just ruined his plan, so he would definitely be angry at her. “Are you okay?” Marcus directed his question towards Adrian. He gently placed his palm on Adrian's shoulder, as if to comfort him. Adrian violently shook his hands away. This only angered Marcus but Helena couldn't care less. She was only concerned about how she would get Adrian out of this hall. “You’re fired!” Marcus shouted at her. “How can you be so careless? I won't let you off the hook tonight.” “I'm so sorry sir, I'm so sorry,” Helena apologized profusely. Of course, she had to act sorry. “Nonsense!” Marcus pushed her but Helena didn't bulge. She only looked at Adrian and waited for him to make a decision. “It's okay,” Adrian finally spoke up. “I’ll get a change of shirt upstairs,” “You can wear any of my shirts. I'll ask the butler to get it for you.” Marcus suggested. “It's okay, I'll just wear one of my old shirts.” Adrian rejected. Since he grew up in the Vale mansion, it was normal that he had some of his clothes here. Elena noticed the rigid expression on Marcus face, he was obviously not happy about Adrian rejecting his offer to help. “I should be back in 30 minutes. I'll deal with her myself, you don't have to.” Adrian pointed towards her. “Follow me,” “I'm so sorry sir,” Helena pretended to be scared of Adrian’s punishment but she didn't hesitate to grab the tray and the almost empty glass of wine, rush ing after Adrian who had just walked away from the scene. Heavens help her tonight, Helena played silently as she walked out of the hall.
