Chapter 2

The moment they stepped out of the hall, Elena looked around at the unfamiliar Hallway. Adrian had existed the hall through another exit, so she wasn't familiar with this part of the mansion. He stopped abruptly and Helena almost bumped into him. There was a cold look on his face as he turned around to look at her. Helena was bothered about that though, she was more worried about getting out of here. “I know what you're thinking, I spilled the wine on you on purpose. If you had even a sip of that wine, you would be dead by now. I would advise that you forfeit your plans of changing your shirt and get out of here first.” “How do I know that's not your own way of getting rid of me?” Adrian shot at her. “Getting rid of you? If I wanted to get rid of you, I wouldn't have saved you in the first place. Also, my life is in danger because I just saved you.” Adrian threw her a blank stare. She couldn't tell what he was thinking, she couldn't read his mind. But since he had helped her escape from the hall, she believed she might still be able to convince him. “I swear to God, if I'm lying on you, I'll be struck by lightning.” She raised two fingers to prove herself. “Who are you and why are you helping me?” “I'm a nobody. My name is Helena and I'm just a poor girl who took this job because she needed the money and I overheard your brother and Celine conspiring to poison your drink, and decided to save you. That’s it. I swear.” “And if I find out you're lying?” “Kill me,” Helena responded decisively. “If I'm lying, kill me.” “And what's in it for you? What do you want from me?” Adrian asked. Of course, a man like him wouldn't trust that a nobody like Helena would help him for free. “Right now, I just want to get out of here alive. Dead people don't make demands.” Before Helena could say another word, Adrian's phone rang. It was Marcus calling. Helena noticed Adrian was reluctant to pick the call. “Pick it. If you don't, Marcus would definitely start suspecting us.” Helena nudged him. He was still reluctant, but he picked the call. Helena couldn't hear what Marcus was saying from the other end of the phone. “Mhmm, I changed already, I'm coming now.” Adrian said to the phone before hanging up. “You can't go back.” Helena insisted. Adrian didn't respond. It seemed like he was weighing his choices. “Okay, let's get out of here.” He walked away from her immediately while Helena ran after him. A few minutes later, they were back at the entrance, where every other guest had parked as well. Helena didn't know what Adrian's car looked like, so she only walked closely behind him, looking left and right to make sure no one was following them. Finally, Adrian stopped in front of a black Audi S8, but there were two men, dressed like bodyguards, guarding against the car. “Are they your men?” Helena asked with a low voice. Surprisingly, Adrian responded immediately. “No.” His expression had darkened and it was obvious he was not a friend of these people. “You're not allowed to leave until the party is over.” One of the men walked towards them, arms folded on his chest. “Says who?” Adrian asked the bulky looking man. “I'm just doing my job, Mr Vale.” He responded without answering Adrian's question. “Get out of my way,” Adrian commanded. “Mr Vale, let's not do this the hard way.” Helena could only hide behind Adrian wondering exactly how he would get them out of here. “Let's get this over with.” Helena didn't expect Adrian to throw the first punch. Shit! Now things would definitely get more messy. Helena could only stand there as she watched all three men get into a fist fight, or so she thought. Because only a few seconds later, both men pulled out a knife from thin air. “They have knives!” Helena immediately warned Adrian who was obviously aware of the situation. “Stay back,” he warned her back. Of course, Helena had already distanced herself from the chaos. She had died once and did not plan to die again, especially not this way. But seriously, this isn't funny anymore, cause how the f**k is Adrian supposed to fist fight his way out of this. She had thought all she had to do was to stop Adrian from getting poisoned but it seemed Marcus did not plan for them to leave this place unscathed. “Adrian, watch out!” Helena warned Adrian who was about to be slashed with a knife. Helena stood there for the next 5 minutes watching as Adrian beat both men into a pulp. Wow, she didn't think this man was that incredible. “Get in the car fast,” Adrian pulled Helena who was busy admiring his work of art. Helena got into the passenger seat, while trying not to spill the remaining wine in the glass she was still holding. Adrian started the car and hurriedly pulled out of the parking lot. Both did not have time to put on their seatbelt. All they knew was that they needed to get out of here before Marcus realised his men had been damaged with Adrian's powerful fist. “Hey, where are we going?” Helena kept looking around to make sure they were not being followed, so she definitely noticed that this wasn't the way out of the estate. At least, not the way to the main gate. “Another route,” Adrian curtly explained as he increased the speed at which he was driving. Helena could only hold on for her dear Life. Adrian practically grew up in this estate, so he must know other exit routes they could go through. Helena could only hope they exited this place safely. Thankfully, thirty minutes later, they were in the heart of the city. Helena breathed in the city air happily. Seeing the familiar buildings and cars, Helena was half happy that they had at least escaped from that death trap. Helena glanced at Adrian who was driving with utmost concentration. One thing she couldn't deny though was that this man is very very fine. In fact, fine was an understatement. She meant breathtakingly handsome. Knowing she had saved a man like Adrian, she felt that she had at least achieved something good in her already trashy life. Thinking of how he had easily died in her past life, Helena couldn't help but feel pity for this man who no one wants to associate with. Everyone referred to him as the Jinx but after what happened tonight, Helena no longer believed in that superstition. It seemed every terrible event tied to him had been instigated by someone. The car slowly came to a stop as Adrian found a spot to park on the side of the road. “Why'd you stop?” Helena turned to ask him, but instead was met with a gun pointed directly at her head. His gaze was very cold as he told her. “ Who the hell are you and what do you want from me. Start talking.”
