Chapter Fifteen

1592 Words
“I hope you’re right about that, Musa,” Nova said, her voice hopeful, making me glance at her with a raised eyebrow. “But since I probably won’t be celebrating my birthday—first, because I don’t have many friends, and second, because I’m not a fan of parties…” Nova trailed off, glancing down as she spoke. I looked at her thoughtfully. “Well, you at least have me,” I said with a smile. “And I’m pretty sure you have more friends than you realize. You’ll be surprised by how many people consider you a friend.” Musa gave me a knowing smile as if she was in on some unspoken truth. By the time I finished speaking, we had reached the school. Musa turned off the engine, and we all climbed out of the car. We made our way toward the doors, but before I could open them, a large arm pushed them open for me. Turning, I saw Damien and Caleb following closely behind. It felt like I was walking with two bodyguards, which made me chuckle. Looking behind me, I caught sight of Logan and Rose, hand in hand. It was adorable. They were everything I wanted in a relationship. Sighing, I turned my gaze to the twins. I wished I could have a relationship like theirs, but it felt so natural to them—while I was awkward. Of course, Musa and Nova seemed to pick up on my mood and smiled knowingly. A blush spread across my face, and naturally, Damien noticed. Thankfully, he didn’t comment on it. As we entered the school, I noticed people staring at our unusual group. When we reached the first locker, Rose stopped and said, “I’m heading to my locker. I’ve got a class in five minutes. See you all at lunch.” She kissed Logan, then planted a kiss on my cheek, making the twins growl. Rose and I burst into laughter. “You two do know I have my mate, right?” she asked, hands on her hips. The twins immediately looked down, embarrassed, which only made the rest of us laugh harder. “Oh, Rose, let them be,” I said with a mischievous grin. This time, the twins didn’t miss my smile. “Oh, you think it’s funny when we’re embarrassed?” Caleb teased, making me swallow nervously. “No, not at all,” I said, trying to look innocent, but judging by their expressions, it wasn’t working. Just my luck. “We’ll see you at lunch, Rose,” I said quickly, eager to change the subject. I waved goodbye to Rose and Logan, and we continued on our way toward Musa and Nova’s lockers, which were conveniently next to each other. Almost like the universe had planned it as if it was a sign from the Goddesses that the two packs should unite. No pressure, I thought sarcastically. And it wasn’t just the two packs; my mother’s coven would probably be involved too. Great. I looked up at the sky, silently asking, Why me? “Guys, my locker is on the other side of the school. I’m going to head there alone if that’s alright,” I said, glancing at the twins, hoping they’d understand I needed space to think. “Of course. If anything happens, just text us, okay?” Damien said, catching on quicker than Caleb, which made me smile slightly. “I will. I’ll see you at lunch,” I replied, flashing a smile at everyone before turning to leave. As I walked toward my locker, someone decided it would be funny to stick out their foot, causing me to trip. I almost fell flat on my face, but someone caught my arm just in time, saving me from total embarrassment. When I turned to thank my rescuer, I saw it was one of the wolves from Bloodmoon. “Thank you for catching me,” I said, but before the person could respond, I heard a mocking laugh—it was Stefanie. “Aww, did you trip over your own feet?” she asked, her voice dripping with fake sweetness. “Will she ever stop?” Melody, my wolf, grumbled in my head. “I don’t know, but I’m getting close to throwing the first punch at her fake face,” I replied silently, trying to stay calm. “You’re from Bloodmoon, right?” I asked the person who had saved me. “Yes, ma’am, I am.” “Good. Let your Beta heir know I’m about to have some issues here,” I said, turning to face Stefanie. “What’s wrong? Nothing to say now that you’re alone?” Stefanie taunted, her fake smile still in place as her friends giggled behind her. “No, I’m just trying to decide if getting expelled would be worth it,” I replied, matching her fake tone with sarcasm. “Oh, please do. I’ll keep the twins company while you’re gone,” she sneered. That was the last straw. Without thinking, I lunged at her, throwing my arm back before slamming it into her face. I heard a c***k and felt the blood flow, a grin spreading across my face. She reached for my hair in retaliation, but I twisted her arm so far that I heard a pop, followed by her pained scream. But I wasn’t finished. Before I could do more, I was pulled back by four arms—not the ones I had hoped for. Turning around, I saw Musa and Nova holding me back while the twins were checking on Stefanie. Melody whimpered in my head. “Why are they checking on her?” Melody asked, her voice hurt. “I wish I knew,” I replied, trying to keep my breathing steady as I faced Musa and Nova. “I’m fine now,” I said, loud enough for the twins to hear, then added sharply, “Clearly, I’m not as important as their so-called girlfriend. I’m not even worth checking on.” I stared the twins down, hoping they could see the hurt in my eyes. Then, I grabbed my bag and walked past them, ignoring them just as they had ignored me. The pain I felt hurt Melody deeply. “I’m sorry, Melody,” I said softly. “It’s not your fault. They’re the ones who messed up. I won’t be talking to them for a while,” she responded, her voice firm. As I walked into my next class, I felt someone following me. I turned around to see the guy who had mind-linked with Nova. “Hi, I don’t think we’ve met. I’m Violette McReid. What’s your name?” “My name’s Wyatt Andrews. Nice to meet you, Alpha,” he said with a polite nod. I chuckled. “You don’t have to call me that just yet. You can call me Vi if you want.” “But you are the next Alpha of Bloodmoon, right?” “Yeah, it’s my birthright. But my father doesn’t know he’s my father, so I’m a bit of a surprise baby,” I explained. As I spoke, I noticed the twins walking toward me. Quickly, I walked into the classroom, positioning Wyatt between me and them. “Wyatt, what’s your rank?” I asked. “I’m of Gamma blood, Alpha.” “But you’re not from Bloodmoon?” “That’s right, Alpha.” “Then which pack are you from?” “Officially, I’m not part of any pack.” “What does that mean?” “I’m a rogue. My old Alpha was a power-hungry maniac. My family and I left, but that made us rogues. Ever since we’ve been looking for a new pack. But once other packs know you’re a rogue, they treat you like dirt. Alpha Alexander took a chance on us and brought us in.” His story sparked an idea for how I could solve one of my problems. “I’ll see what I can do for you. For now, you’re my bodyguard. I don’t want to talk to the twins—or have them anywhere near me,” I instructed. He nodded in understanding. Just as I finished speaking, I could smell the twins lingering outside the classroom. “Wyatt, I’ll explain things later. For now, if the twins try to talk to me, let them know they don’t exist to me. They made their choice by checking on that b***h. Fine, but I hope they’re ready for the consequences,” I said firmly, knowing they could hear me. At that moment, the teacher walked in, and the lesson began. The rest of the classes passed in silence, and before I knew it, it was lunchtime. Wyatt and I shared most of our classes, which was nice—it made me realize I needed to pay more attention to the world around me. We stopped by Wyatt’s locker first, then headed to mine, but again, I caught the scent of the twins. Ignoring them, I kept talking to Wyatt. “Who’s he?” Caleb’s voice cut through, demanding attention. “My name’s Wyatt Andrews. Nice to meet you, Alphas,” Wyatt greeted them politely. “Why are you around our mate?” Caleb asked, his tone making my anger boil. “Oh, now I’m your mate? Really?” I shot back. “I wonder what Stefanie would think about that, considering you checked up on her instead of me.” I pushed past them and walked away.
