Chapter 3: The Moon's Calling

The first light of dawn stretched across the mountains, but the hidden village of the Sun Clan no longer looked the same.
Several homes had been destroyed during the attack. The once peaceful Temple of Dawn stood scarred by battle, its stone pillars cracked and blackened by the Shadow Beasts. Clan members worked together to rebuild, while healers tended to the wounded.
Although the village had survived, everyone knew peace would not last.
Kai stood alone on a cliff overlooking the valley. The golden Solar Morpher rested on his wrist, catching the morning sunlight. Every time he looked at it, he remembered the mysterious voice, the battle, and the overwhelming responsibility that now rested on his shoulders.
He wasn't just Kai anymore.
He was the Sun Ranger.
Yet he still had countless questions.
Would he be strong enough? Could he protect everyone? And why had the Solar Crystal chosen him?
Footsteps echoed behind him.
"You've been standing here since sunrise."
Kai turned and saw Rylan carrying two wooden practice swords.
"You should be resting," Rylan said.
Kai smiled faintly.
"I don't think Rangers get days off."
Aiden appeared moments later with his usual grin.
"Enough talking! If you're going to be Earth's greatest hero, you'd better prove you can still beat me."
Kai laughed.
"I've beaten you plenty of times."
"In your dreams," Aiden replied.
The three friends entered the training grounds, where the remaining warriors watched with curiosity. News of Kai's transformation had already spread throughout the village. Many wondered whether his new powers had changed him.
Aiden charged first.
His wooden sword sliced through the air with incredible speed.
Kai reacted instinctively.
Without even thinking, he sidestepped every attack with perfect timing.
His senses had become sharper.
His reflexes were faster.
Even without transforming, traces of Solar Energy flowed through his body.
Aiden stopped and lowered his sword.
"That's cheating."
Kai laughed.
"I wasn't even trying."
Rylan shook his head.
"The Solar Crystal really changed you."
Before anyone could continue, Elder Orion entered the training grounds with several council members.
His expression was unusually serious.
"I need everyone inside the council hall."
The room quickly filled with the clan's elders and warriors.
In the center stood an ancient stone table engraved with symbols of the Sun and Moon.
Elder Orion placed an old scroll upon it.
"This record has been sealed for over three thousand years."
He slowly unrolled the scroll.
It revealed a beautiful painting of two armored warriors standing back-to-back beneath an eclipse.
One wore brilliant golden armor.
The other wore silver armor that shimmered like moonlight.
Kai immediately recognized the golden warrior.
"The Sun Ranger..."
Orion nodded.
"And beside him..."
"The Moon Ranger."
The room fell silent.
"The prophecy says the Sun Ranger can never defeat the darkness alone."
"The balance of light can only be restored when both Rangers fight as one."
Kai studied the painting.
"So the Moon Ranger is still alive?"
"No."
"The last Moon Ranger disappeared centuries ago."
"But the Lunar Crystal still exists."
"If the Solar Crystal has awakened..."
Orion paused.
"...then the Lunar Crystal has almost certainly chosen a new guardian."
Aiden crossed his arms.
"So somewhere out there..."
"...another teenager just became a Ranger?"
"Most likely."
Kai looked at the map spread across the table.
"Then we have to find them."
Before Orion could answer, the temple bells suddenly rang.
Once.
Twice.
Three times.
Everyone froze.
"The warning bells," whispered one of the elders.
A young scout rushed inside, breathing heavily.
"Elder Orion!"
"Shadow creatures have been spotted outside the eastern forest!"
"They're heading toward the village!"
The room instantly erupted into action.
Warriors grabbed their weapons.
Families hurried to safety.
Kai activated his Solar Morpher.
Golden light surrounded him.
"SOLAR POWER!"
Brilliant energy exploded around his body as his armor formed once again.
The Sun Ranger had returned.
Outside the village, dozens of Shadow Beasts marched through the trees.
Leading them was a towering warrior clad in black armor decorated with crimson spikes.
Unlike the creatures Kai had fought before, this enemy carried himself with confidence.
His eyes glowed with intelligence.
He slowly drew a massive black sword.
"I am General Umbros."
"My master has ordered me to retrieve the Solar Ranger."
Kai stepped forward.
"Tell your master he'll have to come himself."
Umbros laughed.
"Such courage."
"I wonder how long it will survive."
Without another word, the Shadow General charged.
Their swords collided with an explosion of light and darkness.
The impact shook the entire forest.
Kai staggered backward.
Umbros hadn't even moved.
The General smiled beneath his helmet.
"So this is the new Sun Ranger?"
"I expected more."
Before Kai could recover, Umbros struck again.
The black blade slammed into Kai's chest armor, sending him crashing through several trees.
Aiden shouted from the battlefield.
"Kai!"
Rylan held him back.
"No!"
"He has to fight this battle."
Kai slowly stood.
Pain shot through his body.
This enemy was far stronger than any Shadow Beast.
Umbros pointed his sword toward Kai.
"You possess great potential."
"But potential means nothing without experience."
Kai gripped the Solar Saber tighter.
He remembered Elder Orion's words.
"True strength comes from protecting others."
He took a deep breath.
Instead of attacking wildly, he calmed himself.
The warmth of the Solar Crystal flowed through him.
The forest seemed to become silent.
Every movement of his opponent became clearer.
Umbros attacked once again.
This time...
Kai didn't block.
He stepped aside at the perfect moment.
The black sword missed completely.
Kai countered with a powerful s***h infused with Solar Energy.
Golden flames erupted from the Solar Saber, forcing Umbros backward for the first time.
The Shadow General looked genuinely surprised.
"Interesting..."
"You learn quickly."
Before either warrior could continue, a strange silver light flashed across the sky.
Both armies stopped.
Far beyond the eastern mountains, a brilliant pillar of silver energy rose into the heavens.
Kai stared in amazement.
"The Moon..."
Elder Orion smiled.
"It has begun."
Umbros narrowed his glowing eyes.
"So..."
"The Lunar Guardian has awakened."
He stepped backward.
"Our mission is complete."
The Shadow Army retreated into the forest, disappearing into the darkness as quickly as they had arrived.
Kai watched the silver light shining on the distant horizon.
Somewhere beyond those mountains...
Another Ranger had answered destiny's call.
And soon...
Their paths would finally cross.
