GOT THE JOB

"ping, ping", the alarm sounded on the stool close to the bed, it was already 7:00 am. I groaned and got out of bed with sleepy eyes. Theo had already worn his uniform, ready for breakfast and waiting for mom to drop him off. It was a Friday morning.

On my way to Travis room, mom called out to me "Brenda, oh my sweetie-yummy pie finally awake", she murmured to herself. With that, I headed straight to the kitchen and saw mom packing up Theo's snacks in his lunch pack.

"Good day Mom"

"Good day sweetie, how was your night?"

"Great", I shouted while moving the dishes to the dinning table. Theo had already taken his seat.

"Hi Theo", I greeted

"Yauck, it stinks", he responded with a sense of disgust in his face. I chuckled then gave him a light tap at the shoulder, got into my room and gave myself a quick brush on my teeth. I still had my pyjamas and sock on.

"Boom", Travis gave a loud noise and tickled me on my way to the dinning.

"Hey, Travis how're you doing?"

"Superb".

Woo, finally alone. Mom had given Theo and Travis a ride each to their destination. She had left for work, Theo had left for school; can't believe the fact that he would soon be going to college, let's say in the next two to three years and Travis had left for his collection of results. He had actually written his admission exams into the Engineering Faculty to study Mechanical engineering; wish him good luck over there.

And me!

All I had to do right now is get into the kitchen and tidy up the dishes 'cos I didn't want to go to school today.

"Dishes done, kitchen's now squeaky clean", I said with joy on my way out. I got into my room, had a quick hot shower. I had my towel on when I found my cellphone ringing on the stool.

"Hey, hello", I said and kept the phone on the stool while applying my lotion

"Hi, I'm I onto Brenda Logan"

"Yes you are and you're?"I asked

"I'm Miss Megan Anderson, the managing director of Supreme Vino Ltd. I just went through your application letter and CV, just to let you know that if you're still interested in the job, you could come immediately for an interview". This was where mom had wanted me to work as a brewer.

"Hello, Are you on the line", she called out on the cellphone

"Yes I am and I'm coming right away for the interview. Thank you so much Ma'am ", I said with great fulfillment

"Oh, that's great. We'lld be expecting you", she said and hung up.

"Yey!"

I quickly wore my crop top, denim jacket and trousers ready for the interview. I ribboned my cornrows more tightly, had a little makeover, took my wreathed Bougainvillea purple flowers and wished for a successful day.

Finally, I hung my shoulder bag, wore my flat shoes, carefully bolted the parlor door and bade Mr. Lewis, the security in charge farewell.

It was a thirty minutes drive to the Supreme Vino Ltd. I alighted from the taxi and paid the taxi driver off. The surrounding was so neat, you could see people buying cartons of different wines, alcoholic drinks, bottled cocktail drinks etc. It was such a nice place. I was directed quickly into the manager's duty room. Woo, the walls were well adorned with lots of frame.

"Good day Ma", I greeted

"Ya good day, have a seat"

"Thanks", I appreciated

"I suppose you're Miss Brenda. I mean the one I spoke to some minutes ago, right?" she asked

"Yes ma, I am "

"Ok, let's get started'', she said while going through my vitals again "so as I may see, you're still schooling and you are looking for a part time job as one of the Supreme Vino Ltd, right?" she asked

"Yes ma "

"Okay... not just that, you're also into the Horticulture world, I can see here in your vitals that you've worked as a coffee maker in a cafeteria, an attendant in a bistro a d lots more. I can say you've got experience ", she said with a smiling face

"Yes ma '', I chuckled and continued "I was into Horticulture, I'm now a certified graduate and in my last month of Enology"

"Okay here's the deal ", she said with a serious face "You're going to work a full-time brewer here every Saturdays and Sundays from 7 to 10", she paused and asked"Agreed?"

"Ughm", I said while pondering over her question"It's a yes", I finally uttered

"Okay, moving forward I would like to ask you some questions. All ears?"

"Yes ma", I responded

"You said you're in your finals, right"? I gave an affirmative reply

"So, next deal here is this, every Saturdays and Sundays you work here, you'll be paid daily a sum of thirty dollars ", she paused and asked "agreed?"

"Yes ma ", I said

Ok, that's all for now. The job is yours"

"Thanks ma, thanks ma", I said repeatedly with joy

"Please don't forget to go to the laundrette to get your working uniform", she said on my way out

"Ok ma"

"I think that's all for now ", she said and dismissed me.

VINO'S LAUNDRETTE

The laundrette is a clean and adorable part of the company.

"Hey, hello", I called out to a nice looking guy at the counter

TOM'S POV

I kept on staring at the cute figure that just walked into the laundrette. "Gosh", I screamed in my head " she's way too beautiful"

I noticed the way she stared vaguely at the environment; guess she's new here. And just as I wanted, she called out to me. Oh, my God, she has such a nice sweet teen voice

"Hey", she called out again this time clicking and snapping her fingers at me

"Oh ", I said while trying to break out of my thoughts and compose myself "hey,hi, hello, how are you doing? I'm Tom by name and what may I do for you", I spatted out quickly while staring at her wild sapphire eyes.

"Hi, I'm Brenda by name. I want to see the dress washer for my working uniform", she replied with all confidence

"Ok, I'm Dress washer II", I said while pointing at the crest on my chest "and I'm in charge of the company's brewer uniforms"

"Ok", she paused and continued"I'm a new wine brewer here, I'll be working full-time every Saturdays and Sundays from 7 to 10", she said.

I strolled down to mom's work place with a well-packaged uniform bag in my hands. About to step in, my phone beeped, it was a text from Travis. It read thus;

"Hey sis, guess what good news!! I'm facing right now the Imperial College Administration (ICA) students billboard and found my name as one of the best students who did well in the exams. Guess what Sis, I was granted a scholarship for my first two years into Engineering and sis, I'm coming home with my callipers, flashlights, multimeters, rulers, calculators and many other engineering tools which were gifted to me. I'm so happy Brenda".

"Hugh", I gave a quick sigh and then I had another beep still a text message from Travis. It read thus:

"Ughm, Brenda sorry for troubling you but it's urgent. I was told to come with twenty-five dollars for some school stuffs. Brenda sis, I only have a sum of five dollars left with me, don't know if you can help with it, deadline's on Monday. Plz sis help"

"Really ", I said to myself as I walked into Vegas Restaurant. I carefully sat down and called on an attendant's attention.

"Hi, welcome to the Vegas, what may I do for you?"

" A well-packaged three portions of fish & chips, please ", I replied

"Ok", she said and when off.
