CHAPTER 5

" Yes, I put your shirt in my bag and I will give it to you when we get to my house.” I say, grabbing my suitcases and pulling them out of my hotel room. " I can carry that.” " Are you sure?” " Yes, let's go.” He takes my suitcases and we enter the elevator at the end of the hallway. I hand my key to the receptionist and we wait for the valet to bring his Audi R8. He throws my things in the back and helps me get in before we leave. " Thank you for taking me home.” I smile at him. " Of course. So, we didn't do anything wrong, right?” He asks, referring to our drunkenness last night in his hotel room. " No, we just ate pizza, drank, and talked.” " Did I kiss you?” " No.” " But I wanted to!” " Oh, I thought it was just because you were drunk.” " Maybe...” His voice falters as we arrive at Frank's grand estate. He helps me with my suitcases and Tom lets us into the house. " I will take these.” Tom takes my suitcases and goes up the stairs before any of us can stop him. " Oh. Dam it, I forgot your shirt in my bag.” I threaten to go upstairs when a hand stops me. " No problem, keep it. It looks better on you than on me.” " Are you sure about that?” " Yes. I wish I could stay longer, but Patricia has been blowing up my phone with messages, and I don't want to die.” " Sir, don't tell her I was with you, I don't want to die.” " I won't.” He laughs and takes my hand in his and gives it a kiss. " I'll call you later.” " I'll wait.” I blush as he leaves the house and closes the door behind him. God, if it wasn't for Frank and Patricia, I'd already be fvcking him. ... I am walking through the city center wearing only jeans and a t-shirt when I come across a café. I enter the cool place and notice that they are hiring. A blonde little girl is at the counter waiting to serve the next customer. " Hey, what are the requirements to work here?” I ask her. " If you can make coffee, handle rude customers, and give a fake smile, then you're hired.” She says, her cherry voice whispering softly. " I can do all those things.” " Then you're hired.” She smiles. " My name is Ada.” " I'm Lola.” We shake hands as her blue irises look at me. " How many other people work here? " Oh, there are only five of us.” " Oh.” " But, don't worry. It doesn't get so crowded that it feels like serving 30 people.”  " Okay, are you the manager?” " I've been here the longest, so it's like I am. The owner never comes and can't even remember our names, so I doubt he'll not notice you.” She laughs and takes me behind the counter, where she hands me an apron. " I'll help you get your uniform later, just wear this for now. ” I tie the green apron around my waist. She starts showing me how to use all the different machines and how the cash register works. She's the type of person you meet and instantly feel like you've been best friends since childhood. Her cherry laugh and cheerful personality really made me feel welcome. " So, do you live around here?” She ask as I sweep the main floor, there's no one inside except us and another person operating the self- service. " Yes, actually I just moved here.” My mom just got married. " Oh, congratulations! Who did she get married to?” " Frank Evans.” " Oh my God! He's so handsome!” She sighs, making me laugh at her. " Your mom is so lucky. ” " He's not ugly.” I say laughing, not wanting to reveal too much about my thoughts on him. " She's so lucky, I wish I had married him.” I say a bit louder than I should. " Aren't you 21?” Ada says, looking puzzled. " Yes, so what?” " He's like 40!” " So what? He's attractive.” The door opens and my eyes fall on Mark. " Oh, hi Mark.” I greet him as he sits on the bench in front of the counter. " You work here now?” He raises an eyebrow, his smile showing his dazzling teeth. " Yes, today is my first day, actually.” " I see. Well, I'll have a black coffee then.” " Right away.” I grab a cup and press the coffee maker. " How the heell do you know Mark Brown?” Ada whispers in my ear, her mouth open and drooling as she looks at Mark. " His dad and Frank are best friends, so I know him.” I explain, putting cream in his coffee. " Here you go, that'll be $1.50.” I hand him the drink and he gives me $50. " What the heell is this?” I ask. " A fifty dollar bill?” He raises an eyebrow. " I know, but why?” " Just keep it. Can't I be a nice guy?” " You may be, but...” " No "but". What time do you leave?” " Um, I don't know.” I turn to Ada, who is absentmindedly looking at Mark. " Huh, what?” She snaps out of her daze and looks at me. " What time do I leave?” " Oh, we close at five. Oh, by the way, I'm Ada.” She introduces herself with a flirtatious smile towards Mark. " Nice to meet you, Ada, I'm Mark.” He shakes her hand and smiles. If people had the ability to melt in water, Ada would be a puddle. " I can take you home if you want, Lola. He offers. " That would be great, thank you.” I say. " No problem. Do you want me to take you too, Ada?” " Hell yes! I mean, yes, sure, I can go with you.” She nervously scratches her head, while we all laugh. ... When closing time comes, Mark sits on the windowsill while I help stack chairs with the other girl named Grace, while Ada takes care of all the money. Grace leaves shortly after we finish, leaving just the three of us. We close up, and get into Mark' car. I sit in the front. And Ada sits behind me, just so she can have a good view of the bronze god driving us home, while Mark starts the engine and drives away from the café.
