"Why are you all in here," Axel asked.
"We were hoping for a private discussion, we had no ill intention to offend you by coming here without permission," Frederick replied as he stood up to address him formally with a slight bow before he straightened up.
"None taken, Do you mind if we join?"
Without waiting for a response Axel walked further into the room gesturing for Alejandro to close the door before he took a seat by me. Alejandro and Delilah sat on the couch facing Avril who sat lazily on the lazyboy ignoring everyone.
I raised a brow at his rudeness and looked at Frederick as he frowned.
The annoying thing I've noticed about Axel is that he thinks he can do whatever he desires regardless of what everyone else wants.
"Alpha..."
Frederick trailed off as Axel met his gaze with a raised a brow.
"Is there a problem Gamma?"
I noticed how irritated Ricky was getting by his tense posture and the ragged breath he released as if to ease the tension he was feeling.
I rolled my eyes and stood up, annoyed at Axels show of Dominance.
"If you will excuse us we will take our leave," I said as I gestured for Avril to get up and walked towards the door with my two friends in tow.
"Neveah..."
I sighed and turned around with a bored expression as my gaze met Axels.
"As Gamma Frederick mentioned Alpha Axel, it is a private discussion. Not open to the public. So if you don't mind, we will be going."
I kept eye contact with him to see if he would protest. I narrowed my gaze when I noticed his mouth tilt into a smirk while his eyes held amusement. The i***t was amused by this?
He gave off a small nod and when I was sure he wouldn't follow I turned on my heel before opening the door and walking out to find a different spot we could talk.
Away from prying eyes and nosy royals.
As soon as we were out of earshot Frederick let out a quiet chuckle as he walked beside me.
I cast him a sideways glance to see him already looking at me with a cheeky grin.
I couldn't hold back my own grin caused by this i***t.
"Don't even start Ricky," I said in amusement.
Avril started to giggle behind us, "Damn you got to slap that ass every now and then to punish him for being a royal brat."
I laughed as Ricky snickered beside me.
"I will if you do," I teased as I cast her a wink over my shoulder.
I knew her mood turned sour at the mention of her mate which made us laugh more.
"Bloody hell Avril, give the poor guy a chance. We can all see how smitten he is with you already," Ricky teased as he slowed his pace to match hers and threw an arm over her shoulders.
I cast a look at Frederick before I looked forward again.
"Are you implying you will give Delilah a chance?"
"I..."
After a moment of silence I figured he didn't want to talk about it.
"Lets go in here," he said abruptly opening the door of another random room.
I looked around the room noticing how dusty this room looked. As if no one had occupied this room for a while now. Plus there weren't any lingering scents that certainly gave the impression no one slept here.
"Well this room looks deserted," Avril said as she took a seat on the bed.
I followed suit and got comfortable before she yawned and rested her head on my shoulder.
I smiled at her before I looked at a conflicted Frederick.
"You okay?"
He looked at me with an irritated expression.
"Our situation is a whole lot of shit."
I hummed in response as I rested my head on Avril's.
"I wish I was you so I can have an excuse to leave my mate and not feel guilty about it..."
I raised my head up to look at her with a raised brow as she trailed off.
She smiled sheepishly and let out a hesitant laugh.
"That was inconsiderate of me, sorry you can punch me if you want."
I shook my head and chuckled, "The audacity of you."
Frederick took a seat on the other side of Avril and put his arm over her shoulder as he talked.
"What are you going to do about your mate, Are you going to give him a chance?"
Avril sighed heavily as she played with her fingers and avoided eye contact with the both of us.
"You know I can't Ricky..." She said quietly.
I frowned and placed my hand on her back offering her some sort of comfort.
"Avril..." I paused needing to make sure I worded what I said properly so she doesn't get defensive and run off.
The image of her standing motionless at her brothers grave with a face void of any emotion flashed through my mind. She went through a dark patch in her life where she avoided everyone. Including Ricky and I. My heart ached for her having to live a life without feeling the love of a mate.
I closed my eyes saddened of what she went through.
"Avril why don't you give him a chance, even if its just baby steps yeah?" Ricky urged.
"No pressure babe, you do you. But just please be aware that if you don't choose to be with him then it could hold a negative impact on both sides. Even if you don't want to be with him it will still effect you no matter how hard you try to make it look like it doesn't."
Avril looked at me and smiled sadly.
"What are you going to do with his royal highness."
I smiled and took that as an indication she didn't want to talk about her issues right now.
"Axel and I are going to talk it out and see how we tackle this whole situation. One that hopefully doesn't put me in a negative light", I chuckled.
"He's pretty old fashioned with his dominant persona going on," Avril laughed.
I sighed dramatically as I said in amusement, "That's something I need to beat out of him"
"Good luck with that," Ricky chuckled.
"As annoying as he can be I somehow find amusement in it.," I said with a shrug.
"Regardless of what you guys do, you need to survive as a couple before you can even make an announcement. Alejandro told me you two got into a little brawl according to what the Alpha king told him. So what happens when you announce it to the world and then next minute your the cause of a war between yourselves," Avril stated.
"She's got a point. People will expect a peaceful union, not a toxic relationship. You can't do anything that will make you look like Axels burden especially since they will look at you as the one who broke up the king and queen. And like it or not, you should prepare yourself being compared to the Queen because I can almost guarantee every member of the royals and even the public will do so. Plus they all will...."
"Anywayyyy," I dragged, interrupting Fredericks unnecessary speech.
"What are you going to do about Delilah?"
Ricky paused before he cleared his throat.
"It looks like we have been out a bit too long. Lets go back to the ball."
"Hmm I see how it is," Avril said with a narrowed gaze at our friend.
Without waiting he spun on his heel and left the room.
I chuckled and followed suit with Avril beside me.
"Hes a bloody hypocrite," Avril mumbled.
"I would have to agree with you on that one," I said with a chuckle.
As soon as we left we found ourselves back in the ballroom.
My gaze instantly found Axels as he watched me from his throne that was situated at the front.
He got up from his seat and smiled as he walked towards me.
Movement from my right caught my gaze as I watched as Queen Delilah intercepted Axels steps and grabbed his hand. She gracefully spun his body so he was facing the direction he came from and away from me.
She leaned down and whispered something to him which made him turn his head to the left where he immediately scowled.
I followed his gaze to see the former King and Queen seated with whom I assumed was Delilah's parents judging from their striking resemblance to her.
They watched him from where they were sitting and smiled when Delilah offered a slight wave as a form of greeting.
As soon as Delilah and Axel continued on I didn't realise I was still watching the Former King till he turned his gaze and met my eyes straight on.
My eyes widened in surprise as the kings eyes narrowed.
Holy s**t! Is he really looking at me?
I quickly looked away avoiding eye contact.
Why does it feel like he knows who I am...
"Neveah."
I jumped in surprise as Frederick layed his hand on my shoulder.
"Ricky you scared me," I said in hushed whispers.
He raised a brow before looking around.
"Are you hiding from someone? Why are you acting so tense and skittish?'
I took a deep breath and cast a quick look back at the king to see him immersed in conversation with the other royals. Did I imagine it.
"No Im not hiding, Im fine. I think I'm going to retire for the night."
With that said I cast one more look at the former King before I left for the night with one question lingering in my head.
Was he looking at me? or did I imagine him looking at me?
Who knows.
