Chapter Nine It had been almost a month of them spending most nights together. Milly hurried her pace as she crossed the dark street back to her room at the motel. She’d had to duck out to the local shop for some milk. The carton currently in her fridge had expired two days earlier, but she’d spent almost the entire previous week at Luke’s and hadn’t realized it until she was getting ready for bed. She needed milk for some cereal before she did another early shift the following morning. The store wouldn’t be open at four when she got up.
